So, while surfing and hitting another forum I frequent, "Black Friday" was mentioned.. Is Matrix contemplating joining in on the fun or is the Matrix sale later on? I promise to hit Matrix at 5 AM and partially melt the plastic if you run a special then..

The day after Thanskgiving here in the USA. It is a huge day for retail stores as they run all sorts of sales. Many employers now give the day off. Of course that seems not to have been good enough and now many retailers are even opening on Thanksgiving as well. It kicks off the Christmas shopping period. I stay home and play games...the heck with the crowds.

D'oh! I was introduced to that term a few years ago, but obviously disremembered it...

There are other strange aspects to the day. Stores will open 4 or 5 hours earlier than normal. A nearby Circuit City will open their doors at 5am. Shoppers will begin lining up outside at about 3am. For some folks it is like a ritual. I don't get it-never have done that. My wife will be one of those people this time around. She will be going with some friends-not me.

It is an evil day that must be avoided like the plague. I never leave my house on Black Friday.

I read a prediction somewhere that there will be a big price drop on Blu-ray players on Black Friday.

Circuit City may well be offering clearance soon as they are imploding. However, if you buy something there, don't count on taking it back if you are unhappy. You'll have the manufacturer's warrantee.

Personally, I don't like the whole Black+Day; not right now. Although I think "Black Friday" is meant to refer to "black" as black ink on the balance sheet good; "red" ink on the balance sheet bad.

However, in these times "black"+day conjures up images of stock market free falls. The destruction of wealth, followed by economic contraction, followed by human suffering. Pre-Thanksgiving sale sounds fine to me. Everyone can start the sales tomorrow. It is going to be brutal Q4 for retail. :(

Here coming to a news channel near you; down another 500 points or so. By the time were done, there will only be two types of companies in America. Small ones that we remember their names. Too big to fail ones that are now owned by the tax payers.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Leading retail chains are poised to report the worst monthly sales in eight years on Thursday in another solid sign of an economy in distress.

There you go. You can call it Red Monday for Circuit City.

You know the Domino Theory may not have applied well to the spread of communisn and Asia, but it does provide a good model for what is happening in the economy right now.

Wack!

You should come to my old neighborhood. I could get you a good deal on a set that just happened to fall off the back of a truck, but fortunately had no damage. :)

LOL. I'm afraid you are on the wrong coast-too far away.
I will have to check out the nearby Circuit City again, like a vulture checking out a dieing horse.

I think that "Black Friday" may come a few weeks later this year than is the norm.

Hope the phenomena doesn't hit Matrix too hard.
