Anyone know if this photo is for real?

Caption that came with it:

"This photo was taken by a soldier in Afghanistan of a helo rescue mission.
The pilot is a PA National Guard guy who flies EMS choppers in civilian life.
Now how many people on the planet you reckon could set the back end of a
chopper down on the roof top of a shack, on a steep mountain cliff, and hold
it there while soldiers load wounded men in the rear. If this does not impress you... nothing ever will."

I don't see why it wouldn't be 'for real'.  It's an impressive piece of flying but no more so than, say, what a lot of the civilian search and rescue guys get up to, frequently in far worse weather.

Good piece of flying, but impossible? Surely not. I am quite sure that those mud brick shacks are stronger than they appear, plus the Chinhook isn't setting down its' entire weight down on the roof. So I'd have to agree with those that say "not impossible".

Maybe
I doubt its real though,

1) where is the prop wash ?
2) Shadows/sun angle is not consistent on the aircraft when comparing them to the ground .

Snopes is not an authority on anything. FYI. FWIW.

Yes that actually happened.  Having flown in quite a few of those double winged neverflies (I hate Helicopters), I can attest to the fact that they can pull some fantastic stunts on those birds.

Having had my share of Huey rides...I'm not particularly fond of helicopters either. But I have seen army pilots do some amazing and brave things.

Having watched an Army Ch-47 hover perfectly still at 30' agl for 45 mins one breezy day on an Air Force Base a couple of years ago, I can think of absolutely no reason that is not a real picture.

I believe it is entirely possible but I'm still iffy because of what looks like the absence of prop wash. The trees seem stationary and the front of the building has no dust or anything moving.

What would be the point of faking this picture?

Nothing unusual or exceptional about that at all. The crew chief lays on the tail ramp and calls out directions.

The rooftop is standing still. The hard stuff begins when you try and set one down on a moving ship in heavy seas.
