Starting the game with NATO units doing the first move, I will start an AAR here:

June 1st 1986

The western states gathered in NATO became more and more worried about concentration of troops of Warshaw Pact on the east side of the iron curtain. At 1st of June a secret conference was held in NATO headquarter at Brussels. After a long night of intensive discussions and heavy struggle a decision was made in the early morning hours that started an avalanche of military action all over the world.

As a high ranked general said later it became common opinion that NATO should take the initative and not let Soviet Union and its vassals be the acting part and create facts that could hardly be changed again.

Secret preparation starts and three days later NATO units were ready to launch a defensive attack against the aggressive Warshaw Pact armys.

The actions started at the Bosborus where Turkish army attacked Bulgarian units and defeated them. The 8th Armoured Corps pushed foreward, supported by air units and the Turkish fleet in the Black Sea. The Bulgarian corps was completely wipped out and in a quick advance the Russian city Varna was taken.

In central Europe 1st Bundeswehr army standing east of Hamburg started its attack at the Warshaw Pact units that had gathered in the plain area at the German coast of Baltic Sea. No advance was made for the WP troops were quite strong. Trying to get more information about the strength of the WP units ended in a complete failure. The AWACs recon planes were shot down. So, Bundeswehr HQ decided to be careful and wait with any advance across the river Elbe.

At the same time 2nd Bundeswehr army together with Austrian forced attacked Tchechian units south of Praque and made them suffer heavy losses.

Great Britian supports the Bundeswehr by sending naval units to Denmark. Russian submarines had already moved foreward and were trying to pass the Belt to get into North Sea. German submarines and a British carrier group did a combined attack. Four of five Russian submarines were sunk and one was trapped near Oslo, unable to escape.

It is taken very serious that attemps were seen that Russian units tried to invade Norway. NATO HQ will have an eye on it and prepare for defencive action in the area.

After the first attack of NATO the answer of Warshaw Pact was quick and hard.

The Turkish troops that had conquered Varna were attacked and completely wipped out. In the north the Finnish troops at the border to SU discovered a large army group of three Soviet corps and retreated into the woods of Finland building up a defence line there. Near Helsinky the fortications at Vyborg were under heavy attack and had to be given up. Russian submarines tried to pass the Barents Sea and get into North Sea. They were discovered and attacked by NATO subs. Both sides lost boats in the deep cold sea.

NATO HQ is concerned about the pressure of WP at souhtern and northern flank.

While at the German border both sides stand face to face without launching major attacks the situation in Austria and Tchecia gets dramatic. An overwelming force of WP corps attacked Vienna and conquered the city. Second Bunderwehr group had to retreat into the Alps.

In next step NATO strikes back. Bundeswehr units attacked a Tchecian HQ, that was supported by artillery and air force. All were driven back and had to escape to the area east of Praque. Although the city is undefendet, NATO units did not march in to avoid being encircled. South of Praque a first attack of NATO was driven back. Both sides suffered heavy losses. Airstrikes and a second attack were successful and a Soviet artillery corps and an infantry corps were nearly wipped out. While Austria might fall to WP, Tchecia might be conquered by NATO.

At the southern flank the Turkish army has to be reinforced. No serious attacks on ground were launched. But near Sofia air battles were fought, that caused losses on both sides without on side being superior.

As Israel has joined the western alliance and arab nations joined the WP the war has spread to Near East. Turkey now is in danger of being attacked from south SU areas and Near East region.

Nice AAR. (although i am a little partial). Interesting to see the differences from our first game.

Maybe some pictures? you could always post them one-two turn/s after the turn is played and/or blank out critical information?

As I was too busy the last days, meanwhile five turns were done and I will summarise the developement now.

The situation at the southern flank:
WP is advancing from Varna (west of Black Sea) towards Istambul. Airstikes and a heavy counterattack by Turkish infantry made the SU suffer severe losses of fighters and tanks. A Soviet corps was nearly wiped out. The situation changed when SU brought reinforcments to the front. The brave defence of Turkish troops was broken and remaining units had to retreat to defend the capital. A large SU fleet appears north of the Bosposus, sank the Turkish sub that was placed there for recon, and nearly defeated the whole Turkish naval force. The rest of the Turkish forces entered the Bosporus. Still some small Turkish army groups control the area at the northern border. Although a large SU army group moves westward to Sofia they do not dare to attack the defenders in the mountain area. But Turkish recon is very limited, so it is not clear what kind of units the SU moves along the road. Doing airstrikes by still very effective Turkish air force provided some information about armoured forces within this SU army group. From the eastern area SU units are advancing towards Ankara. The Turkish army had only infantrie and mg units in the east. They could not stand the attack of Russian armour supported by artillery. So, Istambul will be attacked from two sides.

The northern flank:
For some time the Finish units in the woods could hold back the Soviet forces. The Soviet units near Helsinky were attacked by Norwegian airforce and suffered some losses. But as soon as the defenders in the woods north of Helsinky were defeated the SU forces started an attack supported by air and artillery and captured Helsinky. The city is nearly completely destroyed. The SU units are now moving westwards to Norway. At the same time a large Soviet fleet tries to pass the Barents Sea to move to North Atlantic. A NATO sub group discovered the advancing forces. Although being attacked several times by air and naval units no sub was lost.

The situation in central Europe:
WP forces moved foreward in Austria and southern Germany. Two Bundeswehr groups were destroyed, Munich was lost. French reinforcements tried to build up a defence line at Frankfurt, including fortifications that were build there. But as the way cross Munich to Frankfurt and the upper Rhine area seems to be the main direction for WP the defence was broken and enemy units are now standing just in front of Frankfurt. Russian paratroopers have landed west of the Rhine to secure the bridges. French forces will hardly be able to defeat them. The defence of northern Germany was more successful. Airstrikes and artillery bombardment by land and naval units caused heavy losses of WP units. A counterattack of Bundeswehr and French army across the Elbe made two WP corps retreat. As enemy forces further south are very strong the NATO units did not cross the Elbe to avoid being encircled and cut off of supply. Meanwhile WP has crossed the Elbe further south and is pushing the NATO units northwards. The terrain is very suitable for heavy armour and WP has reinforced their army groups with this units. Getting reinforcements from GB the NATO units try to stand the attacks as long as possible. But the WP seems to be more than twice times stronger than NATO.

(Would like to add two images here, but do not know how to do. So any help is wellcome.)

Rufus under the screen where you write your messages is " click here to upload" click it and also tick the box "embed picture in post".

Then you can insert a screenie from your folder where you save your screenshots. But just follow the instructions. If I'm not mistaken it has to be jpeg format. Also it can only be of a certain size, but you'll notice that when you get the message sucessfull or not.
But it is quite easy,if I can do it then anybody can!!

Just give it a try. Looking forward to seeing how Europe is being transfered.

Mat
