I have an MSI DVD player in my computer and it seems it's "region locked".

I recently purchased the old series Combat! from Amazon.com...I grew up with it as a child and when me and my twin brother watched an episode, we'd run out and play in the fields at soldiers...but when I put the disk into my computer dvd player, it said it was changing region and I would have 2 chances to change it back.

Any ideas how I can circumvent this in order to watch my DVDs?

I did know they were region 1 DVDs and Amazon was very clear to tell me this...but I used to have a multi-region DVD player and thought I still had when I purchased them...unfortunately when I replaced my telly I bought a Panasonic package and the DVD is not multi region.

Last time I buy Panasonic.

Well it turns out my MSI DVD writer can play it fine, it's my other DVD player that has the problem. I'll just have to be more careful in future when I buy hardware.

Yeh for DRM

I hope you have the Season 4 set because the 2-parter HILLS ARE FOR HEROES is on it. It is not only the finest COMBAT episode, but can stand up to many war movies as well...Directed by Vic Morrow, it forshadows events that occured in Vietnam as represented in movies like HAMBURGER HILL. When you consider the budgetary and censor restraints imposed on  60's US television, it makes Combat episodes like HILLS ARE FOR HEROES all the more of an achievement!

JD,

Glad you're getting to see those 'Combat' DVD's. I've been going through the series myself and am up to season four. It's great fun and the series holds up very well for something produced over forty years ago. Probably one of the better American TV series ever made.

I only bought Season 1 Campaign 1....quite a lot of story in there...4 discs and 16 episodes

I see there's Season 1 Campaign 2...how many Series/Campaigns are there? This could turn out expensive.

I do plan to buy the others...but I didn't want to screw my drive up and have it left as Region 1, so I never watched more than the first episode of season 1...I don't know why I never tried my writer before.

Still, the answer is to get a region free DVD player and get shot of that panasonic crp and it protection rubbish....and the industry wonder why people pirate!!?

There are five seasons that are catagorized into two sections per season. I think it works out to about eight disks per season, four episodes per disk. The fifth season is in color. (Although I kind of prefer the b/w episodes myself. Gives the show more of a period look.)

Here's a handy link to a web page that gives a good overview of the entire series:

JD,
The list on that site has the episodes listed in order of when they were first broadcast. If you look in the production column you will see that 'Reunion' is indeed the 16th production (016). 'The Volunteer' is the 20th episode (020) produced although it was originally broadcast before 'Reunion'. This was/is a pretty common practice for new TV series. The good thing about the DVD's is that they are in order of production and it's easier to follow the evolution of the series as it was filmed.

BTW, you will notice as you watch the episodes that they get much better after first half-dozen or so. And the weapons get more realistic, especially the German crewed machine guns.

If you can afford it, it's worth having the whole five season collection. Probably the best WWII TV series. Vic Morrow really does a good job as do most of the supporting cast.

Thx Dave

I couldn't possible afford $255...not even the $175 from Marketplace...the financial director just wouldn't stump up the doh! Besides, I'm looking at upgrading my machine - £200 for that next month.

Maybe I'll stick it on my wish list for Christmas. I loved the series. My brother and I would regularly watch it then go out into the field with our sticks and play soldiers.
