LATEST STOPPRESS:
-----------------

Wehrmachtsbericht
September 30th 1941.

Our brave panzers in early morning hours reached Kremlin walls. after a short fight Soviet commander of the Moscow Garrison, Vlasov, signed an unconditional surrender. Fights lasted the next 2 days but after fall of the main supply dump Soviet units were giving up. For the first time since 1812 Moscow has been captured.

------------

A huge Moscow kessel has been destroyed. 5 strong Soviet armies were either destroyed or forced to surrender. The Red Army has suffered enormous losses.

Also Tula has been captured (given without fight).

Southern to Tula Soviet garrison in Voronezh has been encircled and later destroyed.

The VVS was pretty active on September 28th-29th and they suffered such losses they didn't show up later.

Before October all army groups have reached their objectives:
Heeresgruppe Nord: Leningrad, Tikhvin, Demyansk.
Heeresgruppe Mitte: Moscow, Tula, Kalinin
Heeresgruppe Sued: Rostov, Voronezh, Sevastopol.

Our meteoroligists predict heavy downpours starting next week. If temperature falls below zero Celsius grades there will be snow, otherwise we expect mud.

Losses:
Axis:
inf: 576/6593
AFVs: 143/1945
Guns: 36/922
Planes: 170/2356

Soviets:
Inf: 8326/58296
AFVs: 929/11253
Guns: 2245/19639
Planes: 203/13290

If I were TDV, I would not dishearten at Morphy's apparent oh-so-close victory. In fact, he needs to conquer 5 VP's in order to win (I guess Morphy's next objective is either Gorki and/or Stalingrad, or both, but certainly he's running out of time.
However, I can tell TDV that as German player against Zhukov43, I was able to take both Leningrad and Moscow and I was besieging Stalingrad in Fall 1941 with one of my Panzerkorps belonging to 1st Panzergruppe on the city hex on the eastern bank of the Volga river already.
So, the situation as of end November was that I had scored 4 points (Leningrad and Moscow in full supply) and Stalingrad surrounded at zero supply level.
Then the next turn the blizzards commenced and my opponent threw into the battle for Stalingrad ALL of his best, although depleted, tank corps and started his winter counter offensive just from Stalingrad.
During the third blizzards turn, Moscow fell back into Soviet hands, despite its German defenders were at entrenchment level 3 already.
At present, blizzards are over and mud has set in, and the German defensive lines runs from Leningrad/Rzhev/Smolensk/Orel/Bryansk/Kharkov down to Dnjepropetrovsk and Zaporozhe. Also Sevastopol is still mine since my opponent did not bother to try and retake it.

Actually I admitted a defeat already. Morphy asked me to continue. May be he wants to take Gorky in 1941 or test some ideas for a blizzard.
This is right, the losses are not high on the Russian side (I can withhold much more) but I lost Moscow industy and will not be able to win (well, at least against Morphy) without it.

Oh so close of a game actually.  Last week of GER special supply to take Moscow.  Granted, SOV can't effectively counter-attack until Dec, but TDV almost held out.  Good Game.  Thanks for sharing.

I've never played winter '41 campaign as Germans and maybe this time I will...

Actually hadn't I asked TDV to keep playing I would not played winter campaign...

To be honest I don't think I can capture either Gorky or Stalingrad. The weather usually doesn't allow to do it.

First week of October. Snow.

Nothing much on the Eastern Front. Near Moscow strong Soviet units withold all attacks and Germans suffered losses as high as 1:1... Everywhere else we keep moving forward without resistance. Gorky, Kazan and Saratov have been bombed. VVS has suffered heavy losses again.

So far TDV has lost 22 factories:
Moscow: 11,
Leningrad: 6,
Kiev: 1
Kharkov: 2,
Rostov: 1,
Stalino: 1.

Germans have total 49 factories now.

Fall of Moscow is really crippling in 1941 campaign, less painful in '42 campaign. On the other hand the dreadful 1941 winter is still ahead...

I don't remember exactly but looks like right: you didn't mention Dniepropetrovsk, Voronezh, Tula, Bryansk, mentioned Kiev 1 time (not two).
How do you know what factories I evacuated and which ones not?

When I print a report (alt + R) and look on your factories you will see captured cities with 'industry' described as 'Heavy Industry' with 0 capacity, 0 damage and >200 delay:

Moscow Heavy Industry 0 0 249
Leningrad Heavy Industry 0 0 242
Leningrad Heavy Industry 0 0 242
Kiev Heavy Industry 0 0 240
Moscow Heavy Industry 0 0 249
Moscow Heavy Industry 0 0 249
Rostov Heavy Industry 0 0 245
Leningrad Heavy Industry 0 0 242
Moscow Heavy Industry 0 0 249
Stalino Heavy Industry 0 0 243
Leningrad Heavy Industry 0 0 248
Leningrad Heavy Industry 0 0 249
Kharkov Heavy Industry 0 0 244
Kharkov Heavy Industry 0 0 244
Moscow Heavy Industry 0 0 249
Moscow Heavy Industry 0 0 249
Moscow Heavy Industry 0 0 249
Moscow Heavy Industry 0 0 249
Leningrad Heavy Industry 0 0 242
Moscow Heavy Industry 0 0 249
Moscow Heavy Industry 0 0 249
Moscow Heavy Industry 0 0 249

This is, at least I think so, captured factories. It's a pity it doesn't say WHAT they produced but... at least something... :)

As far as Dniepropetrovsk, Voronezh, Tula, Bryansk and 1 factory from Kiev mentioned by you are concerned, they have been evacuated.

Latest stoppress:

On October 26th Gorki has been captured! It was defended by only 1 infantry division (70th as far as I remember). It was a long armored raid. All the factories have been captured.

But this is not the only one news of the day. The famous von Arnim's XXXIX. Panzerkorps broke through enemy lines, shifted south and after a long raid (followed by other armored corps) met Italians forming the southern pincer. Thus... 13 strong Soviet armies have been encircled.

Still one more news: there is also a northern kessel: 5-6 Soviet armies. Also very powerful.

One strong shock army has been shattered.

Vologda taken.

Heeresgruppe Sued reached Don near Stalingrad and severed the Groznyy-Maikop railroad. Soviet situation is desperate.

I guess this means curtains and Soviets have no choice than surrender, especially if also Stalingrad is threatened, on top of the loss of Gorki.
Congratulations, Morphy, that was a real blitzkrieg!!!

Congratulations, Morphy! I surrendered.
You proved a Russian side can't win in a Campaign'41.

Gorki has been taken by 41st PzCorps.
Short history of that PzCorps:

Sept 28 - located (52,17) - Supply level 1 - NorthWest of Moscow.
October 5 - located (56, 16) - Supply level 1 - marched 4 hexes. (minus 40% of readiness)
October 12 - located (57,16) - Rain - Supply level 1 - marched 1 hex despite rasputitsa (must lost 35% of readiness for this movement only)
October 19 - located in Gorky (marched 5 hexes)

I admit, I don't know how to defeat German tanks marching almost without supply and don't stop even in a rainy weather. I supposed if any unit is located in a hex with SL=1 during rainy week it losing almost all readiness and unable even to move. In my opinion that PzCorps must lost readiness long time ago but I was wrong: this PzCorps was able even to defeat my entrenced Armies on the way to Gorki.

I think the onoly way you can stop this is how you did early in your game: sacrifice units to break the supply chain ...
