Hey guys:

I think I may have found at least one of the core problems to our vanishing units in PBEM games! It looks to be the playback functions. These functions should be resetting when loading and/or ending your phase but as it stands now I have just reproduced in the last 3 hours several scenarios that allow you to load another player's turn with the current move state rewound. This places some units in 2 different places at the same time (Your game showing a corps at the start and the corp's player showing it at the end). When loading a turn with this conflict it could create havoc such as what we are seeing i.e these symptoms could include:

Units vanishing when turn file loaded.
Units vanishing after turn file loaded then unit is clicked.
Unit showing to be in the wrong location.

TEMPORARY WORKAROUND:

Do not use the playback function until I can fix this. This should prevent this from happening in your current games.

Will keep you posted!

Thanks for your patience!

Those yellow arrows in the top menu around the middle (left+right) think they only work during Land/Naval phases.

Marshall Question, if host who using playback, could this ruin backupfiles ?

Dont think this is our current 1.02j problem with disapearing garrisons, since they also happen in solo games vs the ai.

Bresh:

Technically it could.

You're probably right. The Playbacks would only affect the PBEM games.

RE: The vanishing garrison scenario, are you sure it wasn't transferred / repatriated to another garrison? I saw something similar to this in a solo vs AI last night? Just curious...

they were Egyptian and Cyrenecia garisons in the respective capitol cities. they vanished right after the GB Land phase (who was controlling the minors)...they were being beseiged, but the Turk had already finished his turn...right after the Land phase, Turkey conquered the minors because there was no longer a garison in the capitols....

Hey guys:

Another thing!

I have fixed the playbacks so that they will place the units at their destinations automatically when another turn is loaded or you end the current phase. This will be put into 1.02k and I have updated this with the fixes preview in the 1.02k preview thread.

I think thats another bug about conquest, though who knows if they are related.
Marshall i will try check it out, but i think they where all gone, atleast i could not find them.

About starve, In Kwik E Marts example Cairo had 10-15 egyptian inf in the capital. And they where never besieged.

No forage roll would had cut that down to 0 :)
But as i wrote ealier, the 1.02j seemed to fix the conquest.

Marshall

We've suffered from vanishing unit problems in our PBEM game a couple of times. I've managed to resolve it as host by back tracking, but I'm not 100% sure it is caused by the issue you have stated. I've now managed to get some before and after saved files.

The problem manifested itself on the Turk's (me) May 1805 Naval phase. Whenever I tried to move a fleet it vanished and appeared in the counter pool at there current strength. I also noticed at this point that some GB and Russian fleets were missing (although neither player had mentioned this) and that also the Neapolitan troops (placed that turn by GB) were missing also. I had not used the playback buttons at all.

Previously I'd fixed the issue by going back to previous saves and then skipping forwards without playing any turns to the problem phase and seeing if the problem still existed.

I had a backup at the end of reinforcement but this proved to have the same issue, as did one from the middle of the reinforcement phase, but one from the middle of the diplomatic phase was good.

What puzzles me is that there is no opportunity for anyone to use playback in the diplomatic or reinforcement phase, so how has the problem occured ?

Can't post zip files in this area of the forum so if you want the backup files I'll have to email them to you.

Will do. I'm not going to be home for another four hours, but I'll get them straight to you then.
