Windows XP Service Pack 3 (KB936929) Size 66.9 MB - 316.4 MB

I'm going to wait a week just to made sure MS has got is sh*t together before taking the plunge! Glad I set MS updates to notify me and not to just download!

Gee...
Some-one might get the impression that you guys don't trust Microsoft.
Shocking!

Microsoft's reputation precedes itself. If no one trusts MS, it's no ones fault but theirs. They do not produce quality products. I got so fed up with their tactics I went to OpenOffice.org and installed their Open Office Suite, which is almost exactly like the MS Office programs (MS Word, Excel, etc.) only it's FREE. With the MS Office suite, you pay a lot of money and if you have to re-load it onto a new system it won't let you - this is one of many examples.

And it's not just me. Microsoft Corp Execs are totally upset with the new OS VISTA. There is article about this that came out a couple of months ago. You'll have to Google it to find it.

Sorry for the rant. If wargames could be designed for the Macintosh I would never buy another PC.

Exaaaaaactly :) Let's see how many questionable things has Microsoft hidden inside that will show up on the spot light...few weeks later. Then we will find on the net how to get around those things...that's where I come in :)

Same here, un-installed MS Outlook and installed Mozilla's Thunderbird - works great!. Installed OpenOffice 2.4, works great as well. As a mater of fact OpenOffice 3.0 beta has just been release, Sun has 32 developers working full time on OpenOffice....so no need MS Office for me.

If I could get Thunderbird to talk to my ISP's mail server, I'd do the same.

Well, buy a Mac, install Windows XP via Bootcamp on it. Use Windows only for your gaming needs and MacOs for the rest. Like I do

But just to make it clear, it is not that MacOs and Apple applications have no issues, contrary to popular believe

The HELL you say, Sir!

Anyhoo, early indications are that SP3 are just more of the same. No big changes over SP2.

Ah well at least they are putting in an effort although it'll likely be terrible, who knows?

Open Office: http://www.openoffice.org/

Thunderbird: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/

I have been using Open Office for about year and it's pretty good. Started with 2.3 and now running 2.4 which is compatible with MS Office 2003. OpenOffice 3.0 which is in beta stage is compatible with MS Office 2007.

Mozilla Thunderbird email client I have been using for about 3 years and I'm very happy with it. No spywares, no viruses, very small memory foot print...I have even now installed on my fiancee's laptop and she is pretty happy with it as well.

I have installed SP3 on 2 PCs with no issues what so ever.  It went smooth and everything worked fine.  Don't know what the hoopla is all about.  Will every machine upgrade with no issues no this is the case with every software.  You may have some crappy hardware and drivers or spyware or anything else you may have installed that crashes or some software that is not compatible.   It is impossible for any OS vendor Microsoft or not to take in affect every piece of software or drivers out there.

Every notice anytime MS has a problem they always blame PC's with the AMD chips first!
There was no mention of a possible AMD connection in early info

Well, I'm typing this on a Win XP SP3 laptop

Just installed SP3 using the MS Update feature and went without a hitch.

You download it, it installs, it says it's finished, it says restart, it configures Outlook and that's it!

My desk top is going through it now.

Same procedure; two clicks - install, restart.

I agree no issues whatsoever.  Most of those articles you read make a mountain out of a mole hill.  Also according to some articles you get a 10% speed increase with XP SP3 so go figure.  Personally SP3 installed with no issues, much quicker then SP2 install, the system seems to run faster and it was a painless install.

I put it on a desktop and laptop today - no issues.  In fact, it seems to have fixed a major issue on the desktop.

Ditto for me, 2 PCs. IE7 seems faster. Haven't tried any games yet.

I also installed it with no problems at all. Went smooth and quickly. No problems with my PC. (Yet)

You guys must remember that there are lots of MS haters out there that provide a lot of disinformation any chance they get. Fortunately the scaremongering tactics about this latest patch are nothing more than knee-jerk reactions. I admit, I was a bit timid to load it myself at first, but after a little research and reviewing of testimonials from dozens of people who had installed it with no problems, I took the plunge. So far so good. Of course there will always be some people who will have problems but that is most likely due to individual configurations than to MS's attempts to destroy all computers in existence.
