I have some Chritsmas money and am considering buying one of the following titles:

Advanced Tactics
Commander: Europe at War
Battlefront
John Tiller's Campaign Series
Operational Art of War

Curious what game folks would recommend to someone who has a little military tabletop game experience (AH's 1776, Mighty Endeavour, B-17, Axis and Allies) and some strategy game experience with something like Civilization.

I don't really think I have a preference on the level of detail. I just want a game that will be fun, will offer me a solid solitaire opponent, and has some real replay value.

AH B17 Queen Of The skies plays very well solitaire and seems to have a nice cross between simplicity and keeping ones interest.

For AH 1776 is mediocre at best imho , GMT Battles Of The American Revolution gives AH classic a black eye and to boot GMT’s Saratoga can be also played solitaire.

Saratoga is very playable solitaire ,actually was modeled so. Along with Guilford and Brandywine . The others Monmouth and Savannah are exclusively a two player game.

Thx

I'd like to get back to boardgaming, but the last time I was there (1990-93?) I knew no-one in the game, so played solitaire. Has anyone ever tried to play TSRs Hunt for Red Oktober solitaire? lol

I'd like to think I can get back to board gaming
