Two quick questions...how do you use oilers? And what's the difference between replenishment and transport (and or cargo)

AO ships go into a replenishment TF.

Difference is that fuel in the cargo holds of replenishment TFs will be used to refuel other ships at sea. If you refuel at sea from ships in a cargo TF, the fuel that get transferred comes from the ships fuel tanks - not the cargo.

Replenishment TF are used to resupply ships at sea.  Transport/cargo TF take supplies/fuel to bases - they can also be used to transport troops and carry supplioes to land over the beach in invasions.

In game terms the ONLY difference is this: replenishment TFs will only unload their cargo when they get to a port if you order them to, where as a transport TF will unload unless you order it NOT to.

As for replenishing at sea, the way it works right now, ANY TF can replenish a TF at sea. You do not have to have a replenish TF to do it.

Except that a non-replenishment TF will use the ship's own fuel bunkers to refuel other ships, not the fuel cargo that is in a TK.

Any TF can refuel from the fuel tanks of any other TF. Only a replenishment TF allows a TF to draw fuel from its cargo.

The rub on replentishing ships at sea (using their own fuel), is that bigger refuels smaller, if even to a fault.  If you press that "refuel at sea" button too many times during your trip, eventually your CVs will drain their own tanks (and depleat your ops points), and you'll be left with a CV with 1800 fuel in the middle of no-where.  There will no one to refuel your CV (you're the largest ship), so you get stuck moving 1/0 - which tends to be very hazardous.

Wherever my CVs go, there is always a replentishment TF in the wake somewhere farther back.  I also keep one fueled up at Pearl to top off the destroyers on ASW patrol topped off, and to sprint out to refuel somebody who runs out of gas down near the Line Islands.  And RN ships tend to have fairly sucky range, so a replentishment TF just for them is a good idea as well.

Not quite true.....this was brought up before....here is the example....

1. A Transport TF w/ loaded fuel in tankers
2. A SC TF needing fuel
3. SC TF refuels from the tankers in the transport TF
4. The two bottom tankers in the Transport TF has now lower fuel.

I've never seen this in my play. Could this be only working for the IJN?

Also, as a thought, is it because the TF were docked at a base?  Does it also happen for the IJN when at sea?
