I think it may be because we always got the British hand-me-downs until our own industry was capable of producing enough stuff for us.
This is especially evident for the RCAF and the RCN. Our flyers were still flying Sterlings while the Brits flew Lancasters; Our Corvette and Destroyers weren't equipped with up to date ASDIC and Radar sets until after the Brits got all theirs filled. I'm sure this was also true for the Aussies and Kiwis vis a vis the Brits. One aside to that though is that after Dunkirk, the best equipped division in Britain was the First Canadian Infantry Division.
I never blame myself when I'm not hitting. I just blame the bat and if it keeps up, I change bats. After all, if I know it isn't my fault that I'm not hitting, how can I get mad at myself?
