So I send the carrier task force south of Port Moresby to set up for the impending Japanese invasion, and the next turn I discover my carrier task force has steamed right into the dead center of the entire Japanese operating area. I had the task force under human control with no retreating on. What the heck happened? This has happened twice already - no matter how far away I send the task force, it goes wherever it likes, just in time for both carriers to get absolutely pummeled. Anyone have input?

Did you set Do Not React to Enemy? Its supposed to keep you carriers from reacting to enemy carriers, but if the TF leader has a high aggression rating it will sometimes be overriden and will react anyway.

I'll have to try that and see what happens. There's just no logic to the movement used in that instance - sailing right into the central area of Japanese activity. Ugh.

Hi jgrease,

Yes, make sure both human control & Do not react. Without both your sailing into big trouble.

Edit-This applies to CV's only jgrease, sometimes you'll want react to enemy on.

Understanding the whole react/don't react commands is crucial to playing UV well.

It's important to study and learn the whole patrol/do not retire - react/do not react series of commands for different TF groups. They can be found on pages 43-48 of the manual.

Also a commander can be cautious or aggressive and will act based on this in spite of other standing orders.

I had the same situation in a PBeM game. I set me CV's to return to port, and they turn around and go straight at the enemy. Now I get the joy of having no CV's operational before June 42.

Hi Borner,

I found this in the ¨help guide¨ for UV on Spooky's site.....

¨Air combat TF’s that have not aborted their mission and with at least 20 aircraft, may automatically move towards an enemy air combat TF after each air search phase. Allied air combat TF between 5 and 9 hexes while a Japanese air combat TF between either 8 or 9 hexes from the enemy will automatically move. (reported by Mark W. Carver)¨

If this is in the manual or not I don't know. I haven't seen it.
