First some searching questions
Going on the samples below would you consider playing (especialy long games) on a map that is in the background and not in your face all the time or just hate the idea
Considering that any shade of map can be produced what shade would you prefer if you would use such a map
The use of a normal map as battle map and a Mil style map as the Hex map has been sugested
would you prefer that setup

I present a couple of sample panels to consider in differant shades and with transistion from color to shade only to show the differance in working with and viewing the units on the map

It certainly does make it easier to find things, and it might be easier on (ahem!) older eyes. Not sure I like the yellow or the sepia tones though. How about one that is more blue-ish? That might work.

Hmmmm.. You don't look blue-ish..... If you remember that, you know my eyes are...ahhh... more experienced, as well. I'd agree, though. A softer tone might be better, but not in the red family.

I'm thinking more along the lines of yellowed parchment...

Here is an effect from Paint Shop Pro 9 - Aged Newspaper

Only problem I see is that the gray roads get washed out and are much harder to spot...

That wasn't the yellow submarine Icon I just saw?

I prefer the full color myself. Even on my older eyes.

And I never thought I'd be looking at 64 with such short range settings on my temporal binoculars. My wife says she'll keep me though.

The map I really prefer is the original upgraded to SubChaser, and I don't have enough room to run the game twice. My son has a boatload of Star Wars games on it, and they are HUGE!!!!!
