After finding this site whilst looking for the Talonsoft releases I wonder if you guys can help me find the name of a PC game(or could have been Atari ST) based on a Warsaw Pact versus nato encounter set in Europe.
The units were Russian Shock Div, and I remember alwasy trying to use Norway (tromso) as a entry point for forces from UK. The graphics were poor and you had the use of nuclear weapons, it was turn based, 2D and the units used to 'flash' when in combat and the results would be shown.
I used to play that game for months and really would like to see it if still around, trouble is I cannot remember the name!

Any info appreciated.

Could be Red Lightning

No nuclear weapons in that one. I'm thinking it might have been the really ancient Microprose game called Nato Commander.

I don't remember Norway being in Red Lightning. Denmark was about as far north as the map went I think.

There was an abstract representation of the battle of the North Atlantic, you could assign a certain number of units to the battle, I think Norway was a part of that. If the Warsaw Pact managed to take e.g. Iceland the Nato convoys were more damaged.

The nukes were modelled though, as tactical nukes.

Theatre Europe? I had it on the Amstrad CPC. The graphics were better than in the picture below. I never did really work out if it was worth performing "Operation Iron Snake". I did it a few times with my girlfriend back then though .

Cheers, Neilster

Jesus, blast form the past. I used to play this quite a bit. Didn´t it have some sort of an "action element" too?

Erm, no they weren't. I have Red Lightning for my DOS emulator; there's chemicals, but no nukes.

I have the original box somewhere around here... Haven't played since I last started up my old IBM AT, so you're probably right.
