Re: Russian Campaign 1941-1945

Thanks for this - it may mean I never play WITE2 for which the manual is still used as a doorstop.

And thanks for the hex outlines which are on page 2 of the thread - I prefer them - and they seem to work on TOAW3 as well.

Re: I have noticed there....

I am replying because I have just finished reading: "TOAW Strategy Guide - version 1.06" by Steve Knowlton and Steve Schneider dated 26 January 1999 from The Wargamer.com There seem to be very few discussion articles on wargames these days - or have all disputes been resolved? --- PS - any...

Re: What games are you playing?

Anyway, moving on I think I shall spend the next hour playing Campaigns on the Danube 1805-9 Here's a bit from Encyclopaedia Britannica 1911 on the set up: https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/1911_Encyclop%C3%A6dia_Britannica/Napoleonic_Campaigns This is one of my favourite games because of the command d...

I was thinking of it being bizarre in respect of what happened down the road a year later at the WTC on 9/11

Re: What games are you playing?

Today I have played: Flight Unlimited 2 Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000 (came out 1999) - the last one where you can see the World Trade Center. And, bizarrely, the intro video actually says "There's the Empire State Building - you could crash into that. How cool." Grand Theft Auto - the f...

Re: Any small games out there?

I agree with Spike Milligna - the well known typing error. I have too many huge games that I am just not going to play. So, what am I playing; Small and random scenarios from combat Mission, TOAW (ACOW plays really fast), Advanced Tactics, Sid Meier's Gettysburg. Command Ops has lots of relatively s...

Risk II

Got it for 50p - found an old XP laptop to run it on.

Won - yay! - first time I've played, let alone won at Risk for, about 60 years. Suddenly my favourite game :)

"Crusade in Europe" was my first real wargame:

It seems you can play a version online.

Re: What games are you playing?

After a LONG hiatus from Wargaming I bought War in the East 2 this weekend. I presume there will be a short hiatus while you read the 500 page manual? (I gave up and went back to playing Advanced Tactics) --- Are you by chance the McBride of some TOAW scenarios fame? ---- Altipueri - David Tallboys

Re: What games are you playing?

Shadow Empire Sid Meier's Gettysburg. Why? Both have random scenario generators - and with Gettysburg each one gives you a code so you can recreate the same scenario elsewhere - I don't think Shadow Empire does this but you can save a file (I'm told). I've never really like space and science fiction...

Looks like somebody had a similar issue, but no reply on Ageod forum:

Or try the Steam forum as they may have someone who solved it.

Good luck.

Re: Smolensk 41 - messed up by update?

In order to put off doing my tax return I have played the first few turns of this scenario on TOAW4, TOAW3, and TOAW-CW (Century of Warfare).

I did miles better on the old CW version - so much so that I think I'll use it more often.

Battle of the Bulge season - and an odd photo

So it is time of the year again to get out those Battle of the Bulge games and scenarios. I actually won a scenario from Decisive Campaigns - Ardennes last night. The photo below was taken late January 1945 - after Christmas had been cancelled and the attack repulsed. The people shown are the crew o...

Re: Successful roll but failed

I think wargames would sell more if they catered to non grognards and actually always included a newbie or arcade level of play. So what if I'm an inattentive private and you are an intergalactic general. I've got Shadow Empire and probably only played an hour or so I've got War in The East 2 "...
