Re: I have noticed there....

Also, all praise to Rick who wrote 5 tracks PO that follows history! I recently suffered under one of Rick's tracks in Russo-German War 1941-45. There were about 4 turns of "Wait... where did they come from... is it the whole... I DON'T HAVE ENOUGH RAIL TO STOP THAT!" General question; is...

Re: Lost in scale

Usually in eastern front "grand strategy" games, we are opposing German corps vs Soviet armies. But, reading few OOB books, sometimes German corps were composed from 2 to 4 divisions. Sometimes Soviet armies were composed from 4 to 6 divisions plus few brigades. Could we also oppose in si...

Not sure TOAW would be a good platform for that simulation. Lots of politics and economic effects involved.

Re: TOAW IV won't start

When I try to start TOAW IV, I get a window with a menu bar and a graphic in the middle of it. See attached screenshot. If I click anywhere, I get the "not responding" message. It had been working previously. I tried reinstalling, including the update, with no change in the outcome. What ...

Messing with the crash to desktop bug in TOAW

Some may know that TOAW has a memory management bug that allocates memory but fails to later release it. This bug sometimes manifests when playing scenarios with lots of placenames on the game map. I've been trying out a freeware utility called "Wise Memory Optimizer" that cleans up RAM us...

Re: Smolensk 41 - messed up by update?

I created the Smolensk '41 scenario for TOAW way back in 1999-2000. It's actually a conversion of SPI's Panzergruppe Guderian from 1976, designed by James F. Dunnigan. In retrospect, I should have included that in the notes, but it just didn't occur to me at the time; I was just excited to convert ...

Re: This Is What Happens When China Invades Taiwan | Ep.6 Mark F. Can

What needs to happen is the same lesson that Russia is today learning, which is, having a lot of ships doesn't equal having a blue-water navy. And to cross the straits and invade Taiwan, the gang in Beijing will DEFINITELY need a blue-water navy and not some collection of warships named after their ...

Re: Bing [Bot]

If I had a vote, I'd say any bot, AI, automated-whatever, should have their accounts removed and the source IPs blocked. I've already seen AI accounts operating on military history forums and all they post is banal garbage. Other than content, are there any other telltale signs that a bot is making...

Re: Eastern Front 1941-1945 V8.1 for TOAWIV 12/2023

Fabio, hear you about designer time available. The modifiable elements in a TOAW scenario can rarely be altered without triggering a huge follow-on of other scenario changes that have to be made to keep everything in good order. I've rarely found changes that could be made in a few minutes that didn...

Try setting the firing range to 5 kilometers and see if the anti-shipping capability is then present.

Re: Game crashes in Scenario Editor

The edits to a .gam file have to be exact in terms of staying with the xml format. Be sure lines with angle brackets are closed, for example. The other thing is, extra spaces or other non-visible line clutter can cause problems for TOAW. Usually best to edit a .sce file and let the editor save it ba...

So, every time I play a scenario in TOAW, for example, and as it appears in the beginning:

Scenario: Ia Drang 65
Computer-ARVN/US
Player- NVA

I am playing as NVA against a/the PO?
Yes, you would be playing as the NVA against the PO (= computer).

Re: Vietnam Combat Operations update

I downloaded the entire series a few years back; if that old hard drive will boot, I can send anyone the files via email. It would be a chore for me so I'd rather someone else would post the series to a web page before I do that. It would involve me dragging a tower out of storage and hooking it up...

Zovs, are you logged in with imgur when you do that? Putting up an image without login did not display the bbcode option for me.

What seems to be missing from all the sources are the 1944 maps. They exist in U.S. archives, but to my knowledge have not been scanned. :(

Larry, Had problems with imgur as well. I used imgbb to display this image. Not sure what their limitations on size are. https://imgbb.com/ Put the image there. Hit "upload". Then look at the options for links that are shown. I take the full link option but only include the part that start...
