Operation Hickory CTD after assault

I was assaulting an NVA position with a group of ARVN paratroopers.

A dialog box popped up stating it was an ambush, and a unit was lost.

Game then crashed to desktop.

Re: Issue with Operation Hickory

Jason, Thank you for responding so quickly and clearly. The hex locations for LZ's cleared everything up in a heartbeat. In the military, you are never lost; you are just temporarily misdirected. And I was misdirected on this map. The operations order calls out Rt. 606 and 561. I found them, but fou...

Issue with Operation Hickory

I'll begin this post by stating that I may be totally wrong. I am not very experienced with the game, so I could be missing something. The issue has to do with the missionin Operation Hickory to airlift 3/4 Marines to an "LZ along 606." I found three likely LZ's: LZ Crow Helicopter Valley ...

Re: Long and Short rounds

berto, I used to code for a living. I don't do that anymore. I also don't code games because it kind of ruins the fun of playing them, for me anyway. I'll galdly leave the coding up to you without argument or objection. That, and I'll let you tussle with the sometimes very difficult choices involved...

Re: Long and Short rounds

Interesting discussion. A few points to add in: 1. Artillery (for the US) is often called "on-demand" and begins with "spotting rounds." A spotting round being a single gun from an artillery battery lobbing a shell as close as it can to the designated target. Spotting rounds are ...

Re: The best tutorials ever

Played through the tutorials yesterday.

I agree that they are very well done, and a valuable learning venue. I know these must take some time and effort to create, and just to let you know it is time and effort well spent.

Re: Why there is no refit button for a HQs?

Also, I would suggest a little thought on the subject. The game does a good job modelling most things. In the case of HQ staff, it is done with a broad brush. True, the game TOE shows interchangable "support" staff, but in reality it is much different. Now the level of detail needed for co...

Re: Why there is no refit button for a HQs?

HQ's will refit in the strategic reserve box, but sometimes it takes a while. This makes sense. HQ's use a lot of specialized personnel and equipment. This is not just a gaggle of infantry thrown together ... HQ's need to know how to plan, execute plans, task organize, communicate, coordinate and fo...

Re: Army commander should lead battles

Interesting. I am actually fine not knowing all the die rolls and details. I think you want an idea of how the game mechanics work. You need to understand the fundamentals. However, this is a simulation of combat ... IRL you never know all variables. Suffice to say that "good commanders" a...

Just a note:

Napoleon was defeated on more than one occasion, and died in exile. Not someone I would try to mine for wisdom.

Re: Army commander should lead battles

Well I may be a lone wolf here, but I kind of like the way things are currently done. As a veteran, I can tell you with a fair amount of conviction that the upper most leaders do have an impact ... but the largest overall impact is the combined effort of dozens/hundreds of smaller unit leaders. If y...

<t> ImperatorAugustus, I also appreciate you bringing this subject up for discussion. It may be just me, but the dates shown on map for capture dates are damn near unreadable, especially the blue font dates.

Just me? Wondering if others have this issue too?
