thomasharvey -> WAW 1939-1945 PO Version 62221 Allied Human vs Axis Bot (7/30/2021 3:45:07 AM)

The scenario World at War 1939-1945 now has a strong Axis PO, hereinafter called "Axis Bot" or just "Bot." The first screen shots will be an overview of the map followed by a contest of myself as Allies against the Axis Bot. If either Germany or Japan has not surrendered by turn 312, August 19, 1945, the Bot wins the contest. The scenario can also be played as an Axis Human vs an Allied Bot, however the Allied Bot is not as strong.

The scenario can also be played as a PBEM or hot seat and also can be played as Europe only. With Europe only just ignore the Pacific map and units. They do not interfere with the Europe activity.

thomasharvey -> RE: WAW 1939-1945 PO Version 62221 Allied Human vs Axis Bot (7/30/2021 4:06:09 AM)

On the first turn the Axis Bot invades Norway and Poland. The reason the Bot invades Norway on turn 1 is to deter the Allies from doing the same. There is no Phoney War in this scenario. It is recommended in the scenario briefing that neutral countries are not moved until they are invaded or under threat. The Axis Bot will do as it pleases but Italy will not enter the war and activate until Paris is taken. Japan will only fight in China until 12/7/41. Russia will not activate until 6/22/41 and the US will not activate until 12/7/41. France enters the war on turn 1 but has a slow mobilization until the Bot threatens them or the low countries. At that point they will conduct an emergency mobilization. Absent threat, France will have an historical mobilization which is relatively slow. The Bot will attack France very soon. The UK and its Commonwealth enter the war on turn 1 but have a number of units that activate over time.

On the first Turn the Bot has used air and sea movement into southern Norway.

thomasharvey -> RE: WAW 1939-1945 PO Version 62221 Allied Human vs Axis Bot (7/30/2021 4:08:03 AM)

The Bot has been able to advance with units adjacent to Warsaw. Once Warsaw falls Poland will surrender.

thomasharvey -> RE: WAW 1939-1945 PO Version 62221 Allied Human vs Axis Bot (7/30/2021 4:16:20 AM)

Here are the first moves in China. The Bot will never eliminate the Chinese but can push them away from the coast eventually. The Chinese can contribute to the war effort by taking and holding airfields close to Formosa, Okinawa and Japanese home islands.

thomasharvey -> RE: WAW 1939-1945 PO Version 62221 Allied Human vs Axis Bot (7/30/2021 4:26:02 AM)

This view shows France and the low countries. Note the BEF has moved into Holland and has set up a line to shield Holland from a surge by the bot to knock them out early. Also note Holland, Belgium and France have many units but they are not activated yet.

thomasharvey -> RE: WAW 1939-1945 PO Version 62221 Allied Human vs Axis Bot (7/30/2021 4:33:30 AM)

The front in North Afrika will remain quiet until Italy joins the war. The British units there will remain inactive until turn 40 which is the historical date Italy entered the war. So far I have never held Paris that long in testing so Italy will invade Egypt before the UK is activated. Remember there is no Phoney War period and the Axis Bot is very aggressive.

thomasharvey -> RE: WAW 1939-1945 PO Version 62221 Allied Human vs Axis Bot (7/30/2021 4:40:05 AM)

Poland is in a tough spot at this point. Most of the German units are not visible at this time to the Allied player. The Russian involvement in Poland is considered completed as you can see the excluded zones show the new borders for the Soviet Union. The Winter War in Finland is also outside the scope of this scenario.

thomasharvey -> RE: WAW 1939-1945 PO Version 62221 Allied Human vs Axis Bot (7/30/2021 4:46:46 AM)

On turn 1 Yugoslavia and Greece remain neutral. The Axis Bot has been known to send units there early which activates Yugoslavia and sometimes Greece early.

Here is the Bot view on turn 2 in the low countries. Note the Bot has enough forces to hold off the Allies as long as Poland goes down soon. The allied mobilization is relaxed and unhurried!

Alex made the map and the main concept. I did most everything else. The PO took the longest to make it competitive. The original scenario was included in TOAWIV on the date of issuance. It is only now that the PO is completed as a challenge against a human player.

We wanted to be the first to make a scenario covering all of WW2. This is our joint effort to do so.

Until Russia enters the war, things move quickly. Overall the scenario is quite playable if the suggestions in the scenario briefing are followed to save time.

T5 9/29/39 This picture was taken to show Holland is going to be crushed soon. The BEF will be cut off there if I do not move them out immediately. In the end the BEF will have to leave the continent to return the survivors to the UK. However, it would be a disaster to have to retreat to a port now and then try to sail them to a port in France and help France. The Luftwaffe may sink them all!

[image]local://upfiles/50703/CF6C56F8F9A341E5BA08C2D3FA07FFEB.jpg[/image]

Holland will surrender when Rotterdam falls. I will blow some bridges to help slow the Bot.

thomasharvey -> RE: WAW 1939-1945 PO Version 62221 Allied Human vs Axis Bot (7/30/2021 3:32:23 PM)

T5 9/29/39 Note France conducts emergency mobilization. This is a great relief since many, but not all, French units are now activated. The French Army is powerful and if I can get their large number of artillery units ready, the Bot may be in for an expensive conquest of France. In testing the only way to actually hold France is to send more UK troops to France. They don't have much at this point but they can take some out of North Afrika once they are active on turn 39. Paris must hold to prevent or delay Italy entering the war. Once that happens, France is doomed.

thomasharvey -> RE: WAW 1939-1945 PO Version 62221 Allied Human vs Axis Bot (7/30/2021 3:41:14 PM)

T5 9/29/39 Poland surrenders with the loss of Warsaw. Poland still had many troops but they could not last long. Fortunately they held about a month which is the historical time period.

Note in this screen shot the Soviet air unit sent to China. Stalin sent some aircraft to help China and then withdrew them after 12/7/41.

thomasharvey -> RE: WAW 1939-1945 PO Version 62221 Allied Human vs Axis Bot (7/30/2021 3:58:59 PM)

T5 9/29/39 Fort Eben-Emael has already been taken. I did not notice when it fell. The Bot is in all out offensive mode and will not slow down until after Greece is taken. Everything must be ready for Barbarossa on 6/22/41.

thomasharvey -> RE: WAW 1939-1945 PO Version 62221 Allied Human vs Axis Bot (7/30/2021 4:20:39 PM)

WAW39-45 T5 The Allies moved a UK engineer unit to Narvik to help hold as long as possible because the government of Norway will soon close exports to Germany through the port resulting in a small loss of replacements. That will continue until German units can open up the port.

The Stukas are too far south to prevent the allies into Narvik.

thomasharvey -> RE: WAW 1939-1945 PO Version 62221 Allied Human vs Axis Bot (7/30/2021 4:25:01 PM)

T5 9/29/39 The French moved in their available ships to help defend Rotterdam. Note the strikes against their ships as they moved into position. The RAF and French air units helped defend. Both sides had significant aircraft losses this turn. Fortunately the Luftwaffe used only level bombers in their attacks resulting in only slight damage to one French ship.

thomasharvey -> RE: WAW 1939-1945 PO Version 62221 Allied Human vs Axis Bot (7/30/2021 5:06:45 PM)

T5 9/29/39 With the French partial emergency mobilization I have been able to create a front in France and Belgium that will prevent a blitz to the Channel coast. Note the French units marked in Yellow. They are in permanent garrison in line with their concepts of static defense. If they are attacked and forced to retreat they can move freely. The units marked in orange will be released soon ahead of their normal Phoney War schedule. However, if the Bot attacks even one unit in the formation the entire formation is then released.

thomasharvey -> RE: WAW 1939-1945 PO Version 62221 Allied Human vs Axis Bot (7/30/2021 5:26:45 PM)

T6 10/6/39 Here is the Axis inventory so far at the start of turn 6. Note the Axis German infantry squads. The goal is to have those losses up to at least 40,000 by the time Greece surrenders. The Germans then rest and move to the Russian border for the invasion. The Germans will receive about 40,000 infantry squad replacements by 6/22/41. That way the Germans can replace their losses in the west but have nothing in reserve. When testing the Allied Bot vs the Axis Bot, the losses by 6/22/41 are only 20,000. I would then take over for the Allied Bot. However, the German offensive is very difficult to stop with that much in reserve.

Also note the massive Bot forces headed for Holland. The Bot tries to roll into Holland but then goes for weak points after that. The French and British artillery are key to giving losses to the Bot.
