Over the past few days I've probably spent four hours nearly writing an entire OPORD just to plan out what I'm going to do in the first scenario of Mediterranean Fury. Love the deep background in the scenario brief and the options to determine what political/spec ops path I'd like to take (I'm thinking of trying to keep Greece out of the action, if possible). The amount of time and research that must have gone into this is impressive.

Nice work!

Thanks for you kind words.

You can find a lot of the assembled research here http://northernfury.us/

There is a blog specifically supporting this scenario here http://northernfury.us/blog/post24/

That one was fun to build, won't be easy but its fun to play as well. And your choices have some real tangible consequences.

Thanks for the additional info. Northern Fury (the Book) just arrived from Amazon, excited to give that a read when I get more free time in life.

A few questions regarding the scenario: There were two sets of political choices to make: the first was the ability to spend 100/400/700 VP for support of "background" political actions, and the second was between four strategic options - degrade various services of Turkey, or politically separate Greece (presumably keeping Greece out of the action). Are these choices linked in any way? That is, does spending more VP in the first set of choices increase my chances of attempting to keep Greece out of the war?

Second question: Having taken the choice to attempt to keep Greece out of the action, when do I get notification of the results? I ask because I chose this action but then when my opening strike on Turkish forces took place, all Greek units immediately went hostile as well. Does Greece drop out later on? Do I receive any notification if my attempt to separate Greece actually worked?

I'll need to go and check the scenario, but from memory:

Linkage - yes, iirc each of the 4 actions has three levels so you will get a graduated effect depending on how much effort (VP) you spend

Effects - the results are not immediately apparent, you need to 'trust' - a difficult thing amongst Soviet ministries - that your efforts will pay off. So (from memory again) you will note things happening like ships going home, squadrons holding back on CAP etc. There is probably also a proficiency drop in their air units, strike missions canceled etc. I seem to remember at some point you might get Greeks & Turks shooting at each other. However, Greece is still bound by the NATO Treaty so must outwardly comply with that, its a question of commitment.

I'll try and dig up a bit more later today.

So I actually figured something out today, and think it might be a bug(?). When I selected the "separate Greece from Turkey" as my political choice, nothing actually happened - no notification, etc...and the "Degrade Turkish Air Force" option remained as a choice (but the Navy and Army choices disappeared). A few hours into the game Greece launched a 12 plane strike against me, with fighter support, followed by frequent air patrols.

When I re-started the scenario as a test, I chose the "degrade Turkish Air Force" option, and right away I got a pop up stating 40% of Turkish Air Forces were degraded, and all the other choices disappeared.

I re-started a third time, chose the Greek separation (nothing happened again), and then was able to also select the "degrade Turkish Air Force" as an option as well, which again brought up the notification that 40% of the Turkish Air Force was sitting out the fight.

Gunner98 -> RE: Kudos to Gunner98 (4/8/2021 12:28:28 AM)

You did indeed catch a bug. A spelling mistake in the script for that special action which allows the 'Subvert Air Force Morale' special action to remain.

So I will not tell you what happens when you select 'Ferment division between Greece and Turkey' option, but this is an insidious one. You will not see any immediate effect, and it will impact the Turks more than the Greeks. Based on random events it could get very ugly, or it could actually have not much impact at all.

You will need to wait and see.
