ElvisJJonesRambo -> RE: The World at War ELO Tournament (9/19/2020 5:43:24 PM)

ELO game has ended

[WIN] ElvisJJonesRambo (Allies) defeats (amandkm = Axis)

Summary: Massive Russian counter-strike response to overextended Luftwaffen after he got rain in Summer 1942, causes disaster for the Germans. Chinese rolled.

LoneRunner -> RE: The World at War ELO Tournament (9/25/2020 3:23:59 PM)

ELO game has ended:

(Win) LoneRunner (Axis) defeated Generalkaos001 (Allies)

Thank you, The Land, for managing the tournament.

The Land -> ELO rankings after the first 10 games: (9/26/2020 7:10:28 PM)

With only 10 games and most participants with one game only, these rankings are very likely to change. The 'win ratio' at this point is a stronger indication than the ELO ranking - that will cease to be the case once a larger number of games is played. But I thought best to post some to be going on with, so people can see how it's taking shape.

     PLAYER ELO	Games	Won
ElvisJJonesRambo 973 6	2
Thunderlizard11 1,031 2	2
Cpuncher 1,030 2	2
EarlyDoors 999 2	1
HamburgerMeat* 1,026 1	1 (*starting ELO was 1010 reflecting position in the War in Europe ratings)
DoXiTXxX 1,017 1	1
LoneRunner 1,016 1	1
Marcinos1985 984 1	0
taffjones 984 1	0
mcaughey 984 1	0
GeneralKaos001 984	1	0
amandkm 982 1	0

Cpuncher -> RE: ELO rankings after the first 10 games: (9/27/2020 3:50:04 PM)

ELO game has ended:

[WIN] Cpuncher (Allies) defeats Fafnir (Axis)

A hell of a game. War was in July 1944 and could still go on for much longer. At the time, total armored (AT, LT, Tank and HT) losses for US, USSR, and Germany were 15, 28 and 20 respectively (just to show how brutal the war was).

pjg100 -> RE: ELO rankings after the first 10 games: (9/27/2020 4:33:33 PM)

Thanks for posting the losses board CP - notable that both GE and IT built a carrier, and that GE built several subs in addition to those it receives for free. Must have been an interesting game in the Atlantic.

Cpuncher -> RE: ELO rankings after the first 10 games: (9/27/2020 6:44:03 PM)

I believe Germany didn't build any additional subs. There are 2 or 3 events that deploy subs for Germany, in addition to those already in the build queue. So 12 is the total number of subs Germany will get through the game.

Ooof!

Well this game will have a significant impact on the standings!

Would either player care to talk more about how it went?

Cpuncher -> RE: ELO rankings after the first 10 games: (9/28/2020 12:57:43 AM)

Here is what happened in my game against Fafnir:

HamburgerMeat (Axis) vs Fafnir (Allies) (2 weeks ago)

ElvisJJonesRambo (Axis) vs Fafnir (Allies)

ElvisJJonesRambo -> RE: The World at War ELO Tournament (10/4/2020 8:44:59 AM)

Game ended.

ElvisJJonesRambo (Axis) lost to Fafnir (Allies)

Summary: Didn't realize this guy was experienced. Going for Egypt isn't possible. Surrendered August 1940

Game ended.

ElvisJJonesRambo (Axis) lost to Cpuncher (Allies)

What is it? [:)]

ElvisJJonesRambo -> RE: The World at War ELO Tournament (10/5/2020 7:46:20 PM)

Well, he's kicking my ass by avoiding the MedFront completely, and bluffs "one move" early on. He kicks the **** outta Kreigsmarine in mass force Denmark (done it twice now) exactly when the Luftwaffen is either busy in Russia or in MedFront expected the ambush there. Timing is everything.

80% of players like to ambush the Italians, so it's like facing a Left handed pitcher when you only play righties.

Cpuncher, HamburgerBun, Argentum are the real deal.

Hi Elvis and Cpuncher - just looking back over games to update the rankings. I have 4 games between you with Cpuncher as Allies the most recent 3 times, and all as Cpuncher victories. Is that correct, please?

There's a clear variable in talent. HamburgerBun, Cpuncher, Argentum have my number. Check my ElvisGoldRecords thread, I keep all my stats there.

Yep....just double checked, lost 4 times.

@TheLand --- Why do this manually? Wouldn't it make sense to job this to a "Ladder Keeper" website? Who wants to read all this extra traffic?

Setup a Ladder website, simple enough. You can manage the how ratings are calculated. I've played the most games. There's wide breadth of talent.

ElvisJJonesRambo -> RE: The World at War ELO Tournament (10/5/2020 7:59:22 PM)

@TheLand --- Maybe use something like this (examples of free stuff)

Great - thanks for confirming.

I'm not very familiar with those sites, though I just had a quick look at them. To my mind the advantages of the current system are, most important first:
- players commit to matches when they start, which helps increase the ratio that are completed.
- there is no separate registration needed, it all runs on this forum
- at least one person knows exactly what is happening with the rankings and how it all works, some of the other systems are not very transparent at all

Of course there are also disadvantages, and if someone wants to go to the effort of setting up another system that's all fine by me. So long as there is some kind of public log of matches and results, all systems are compatible. However, this tournament seems to be achieving its goals and it's scarcely any effort so I'm not in a rush to change systems.

ElvisJJonesRambo -> RE: The World at War ELO Tournament (10/7/2020 4:30:09 AM)

ElvisJJonesRambo lost to (JackMack= Allies) ---> ELO[LOSS] Italy joke surrender

Summary: Yet another loss when Italy gives up because they lost couple cities in Sicily. Rather dumb, when I recaptured. Dumb, been discussed. Beyond that the Axis were fine. Actually had all kinds of units in Italy, Fortresses, 4-fighters, 2-Maritimes, Panzer, Mech, Italians +2 infantry.

Marcinos1985 -> RE: The World at War ELO Tournament (10/7/2020 11:59:33 AM)

I am available for a game and will happily play, with house rules applied. Allies please. [:)]

I will be able to provide a move per day, my timezone is GMT + 1 (Berlin - Warsaw).

ElvisJJonesRambo -> RE: The World at War ELO Tournament (10/7/2020 2:07:37 PM)

ElvisJJonesRambo lost to (Fafnir = Axis ELO[LOSS]

Summary: May 1940, Allies are toast. Fast tracked Panzers cut France apart.

Marcinos1985 -> RE: The World at War ELO Tournament (10/7/2020 2:27:26 PM)

Well, May is not that bad, how were other fronts?

ElvisJJonesRambo -> RE: The World at War ELO Tournament (10/7/2020 2:45:54 PM)

It's Allied May turn. BEF Army in Paris must decide to die or Operand home to England. Bad move on my part, should have a French unit in the Capital. Cost me a turn there for sure.

In other front. Royal Navy in wrong position, have only killed 4 Kreigsmarine's surface ships, but lost a Carrier + Destroyer.

Nips have landed in Wipro and on their way to Bombay. No way to stop full force Japan. Chinese front, not worth mentioning, Pacific doesn't matter, Allies cannot win there, only lose.

If I battle Japs with Royal Navy, now. Then SeaLion will be a joke. No attack on Italy, Allies toast in the Cookie Cutter games.

One must play the Cookie Cutter strategy. If Allies don't have a good start, they are history. Cannot afford to make 1-mistake, the momentum continues for Axis. Allies must make a move early. Or it's all downhill. No pressure on Italy, not good.

ElvisJJonesRambo -> RE: The World at War ELO Tournament (10/7/2020 2:54:00 PM)

To ellaborate. India lost their Western Port (was undefended). I sent the Garrison to Syria, so the French could send their strength-8 Corp to France to be butchered. Nips were in the wire, found that empty port fast.

Hey, I've had my ass kicked, guess I need to try something new. You want a piece of Mr. Softy American Elvis? **** man, I need an extreme makeover.

@Marcinos1985 --- Okay pal, you might be my lucky charm, to break my downfall. You beat my ass in Libya last game when I overextended Panzer, changed the whole game.

Game is up, you get the Good Guys (as you wish), I got he Bunta.

India got attacked by JAP in 1940? What was USA and USSR reaction?
