Tchey -> v1.03 : pressing 8/9 to see previous/next unit is not working (6/17/2020 11:00:37 AM)

Hello,

Game version 1.03

This is a "multi-user report". We are several players with non-qwerty keyboards, having issue with 8/9 to jump to next/previous unit. 1 to 6 to show different info on the map work as intented, same with mostly all other shortcuts we know about, like m to move, a to ranged attack etc.

But 8/9 seem to randomly not going to next unit, or simply not working at all.
Also sometimes a unit goes to Guard without obvious reason.
But even when no unit is Guard and with full move, itís "bugged".

Keyboards are different models with french AZERTY and B…PO layouts.

Anyway to change that, or fix if itís a bug ?

Thanks

It works fine on my azerty.

If you have a savefile and exact instructions (like 1. click here. 2 press 8. 3. press 8 again ...) how to repeat any unwanted behaviour you can send it over to vic@vrdesigns.net

i'll take a look.

best,
Vic

Thanks,

No, nothing, itís quite random for some, and always broken for others, not based on saved file, maybe position of the third moon or wind color...

When we press 8/9 it changes the zoom level, on AZERTY and B…PO alike even if they are not the same keys.

In France, we have to hit Shift+123 to actually write 123.
Without Shift, on B…PO itís "ęĽ() +-/*

B…PO 789 is +-/
AZERTY 789 is Ť_Á

Despite these differences, both layouts have the same behavior (chaotic...), but only with 789, not with the other keys, thatís what is raising questions.
Also, iím on PC Linux via WINE with B…PO, others are on Windows with AZERTY, and one said he has no problem with 8/9 even if having the same keyboard as another one with issue...

Are they using the Numpad?
Also check what the actual Keyboard Language settings are (there are multiple French, English, etc settings possible).

Another option is a flipped Fn-Key. Normally you need to press the key to get the Fn Key effect. However some keyboards have it flipped:
You get the Fn Effect of a Key by default, and need to press Fn for normal effect.

Yes, but the point is, all other keys are functional.
Pressing 1 shows/hide units, etc.
But with 8/9, itís not doing what it should.

Wich would be even easier to explain with a flipped Fn Key function. Those rarely have something on all keys of a group. But I do admit it was a unlikely thing.

I asume you did verify that the keys actually work? Something like opening notepad and seeing if they type?

One pecurilarity of both Layouts is that the Numbers are in the upper/left corner of their key. That is usually the place where we put the result of Shift+Key - most famously with the large letters. Maybe it is not odd that the 8+ keys are not recognized - but that the 1-6 ones are?

Allow me to point to this discussion thread in the general discussions forum: https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4835048&mpage=1.

I experienced unexpected behavior while using these shortcuts, and wanted to know if other people did before opening a ticket here. There is some evidence tending to show this issue is not merely due to user error or unusual keyboard configurations.

Steps to try and duplicate:
- Start a turn (latest beta patch in my case).
- Check on your units. Some or all might be in guard mode even if they have yet to move, have quite some action points in store, and had not been intentionally set to guard mode.
- Use 8 and 9 keys to cycle between the units and notice they work as intended.
- Here comes the weakest link of this procedure: you have to spend some time playing the turn without using the units (i.e. process the Decisions, assess the state of your regime by reading reports, check on your leader's happiness, skill rolls and experience expenses, to give some examples).
- Come back to your units. There's a chance all are now in guard mode although you did nothing to that effect.

I admit this procedure is not so useful and wish I had a more conclusive one.

To be fair, I almost never use the keyboard in game and didn't notice this issue before somebody else stated they were having difficulties using these shortcuts.
It's not a crippling issue of the highest priority in my opinion, but since they're in these shortcuts should work as described in the manual.
