Mike

I suspect that there are no radars emitting among the targets. In this situation I think a SEAD patrol will work best. Set up a PZ off the coast, set up the prosecution zone over the area you want suppressed. If you need suppression only over a short time than remove the 1/3 check so they will all surge and patrol in the PZ and wait for a radar to light up in the prosecution zone. Even is you never fire a HARM - mission achieved as the radars are suppressed, probably because they are damaged by the previous strike but maybe they are just playing doggo and you're ready when the do come on.

When your strikers come in, if the radars are going to turn on -they will, and you are ready with your HARMs. If they don't the strikers go in with a security blanket on.

You can go hunting if you want and gradually expand the Prosecution zone once your strikers are heading home.

Bart,

I was wondering if that was the case. Thanks, I will try this out.

Have a good day!

Mike

Setting things up again. I need to work on this more to get better at setting up the prosecution zone easily while working on the mission.

Here is the plan.

An hour later, I am not happy with the results. Need to learn some lessons and try this again. I need to remind myself that I'm learning still ...

At least I am having fun!

MikeJ19 -> RE: Russian Civil War - Phase 1, 2004 (8/25/2019 10:58:50 PM)

Tried the new approach a couple of times, my losses were still very high. As you can read below, I'm going to restart at the high point of this last strike and start moving forward with a new approach...

Putting the plan into action.

Switching the loadout was easy.

Mike, if you prefer seeing all the individual planes instead of a single group icon for the whole flight, the V key allows to switch between group and unit view.

Ancalagon,

Thanks, that is a good reminder.

MikeJ19 -> RE: Russian Civil War - Phase 1, 2004 (8/27/2019 11:45:44 PM)

The Rebels tried to take out two of my Tomcats.

MikeJ19 -> RE: Russian Civil War - Phase 1, 2004 (8/28/2019 10:00:16 AM)

The Rebels had another Flanker stray too close to my F-14s. They then sent three more my way, but they turned around before getting into range.

Good start to the day!

Not sure that was worth it. Although, the rebel losses are mounting...

MikeJ19 -> RE: Russian Civil War - Phase 1, 2004 (9/5/2019 12:52:11 AM)

A high speed dog fight with the F-14s lending a hand. I won the engagement, but came out even on points.

I'm glad I tried playing this through a bunch of times. It gave me the opportunity to better understand the different capabilities of the fighters. I was pleasantly surprised by the F-14s.

I took a little deeper look at the battle, by going through the log.

MikeJ19 -> RE: Russian Civil War - Phase 1, 2004 (9/5/2019 9:49:45 AM)

The two rebel planes turned out to be Flankers, and both got shot down. This time, I lost no planes.

Ancalagon451 -> RE: Russian Civil War - Phase 1, 2004 (9/5/2019 9:50:46 AM)

Mike, 920kts is the default afterburning speed of most modern fighters in the DB3000 (a bit simplistic but finding individualized data for each plane is probably somewhere in between daunting to outrigh impossible for retired models).

Ironically the Foxhound (and it's predecessor the Foxbat) is one of the few outliers with a much superior AB speed of 1350kts if memory doesn't fail me. So if those two bogeys are keeping it steady at 920kts, they can be anything but Foxhounds (AI never uses "custom" speeds and always employes default speeds based in thrust settings).

If you want to check the speeds for a given plane, a table with the default speeds, based on altitude and thrust setting, is included in the DB sheet of every plane. It's next to the bottom of the file.

EDIT: Ninjaed, Im still leaving the post here as a future reference

MikeJ19 -> RE: Russian Civil War - Phase 1, 2004 (9/10/2019 9:44:33 PM)

Between 0700 and 0800, the Rebels sent four more Flankers towards the CAP 100 force and quickly lost all four of them. Most of my planes have started heading back to the carrier.

That was fun!
