The latest version of the Iron Cross mod is 4.7.

Please note that the Iron Cross mod can now be used for both World at War and War in Europe.

Kudos IronX to a great looking & very well-made mod that’s gonna be awesome!

I’m fiddling with a ”NATOs & Silhouettes” 2D counter mod that’s nearing completion (I hope). At least on the zoomed in level.
I’ve tried to avoid multi-colored counters, i.e. with darker lower sections to make strength & upgrade indicators clearer.
But it looks really nice on your counters so I may have to reconsider. Again… [:)]

^ It's mostly compatible. WaW uses the first six images - which is all I'm doing - on a row and if I recall correctly, WiE uses 12. So some minor work would be required to make it work.

When it's finally finished, the mod will also come with historical flags and my map graphics.

I think it will be fully compatible for WIE (from v1.16)
I believe WAW and WIE both use the 12 images per rows (its mainly mannaging facing/orientation settings).
"usualy" the six first images are facing east and the last six are facing west (you can swap by using editor if necessary)

Excellent work and good idea to add the vehicles ID's (in such a small space I guess thats not so easy)

I think you're right, at least for WiE. I recall having to do this when I originally started working on the mod. It doesn't seem to make a difference in WaW: i.e., it appears to only use the first six.

Looks phenomenal! My personal preference would be to keep symbols for garrisons, SF and engineers - namely all the infantry type units.

Very, very well done. While the other sets are good too, this one shines in it's mild elegance.

I'm using Sipres counters now, and like them very much, but if your version is ready before I tire of the game, I must surely give them a shot too. I'll play slowly.

Are you drawing each counter individually, or is it possible to add a letter och symbol to an entire batch? I do think it could be a bit difficult to tell Figthers from Tactical at a glance when there are wide fronts. This is especially since some of the Tactical silhouettes are actually Fighter planes, like the P-40. A red asterisk (*) in the right lower corner, for instance, would help.

All aircraft have letters denoting their type, such as F for fighter, T for Tactical, etc. The P-40 here is an anomaly. I'm not sure what the US used for ground attack in 1941. Any suggestions for a replacement would be more than welcome.

Yes, I saw the letters in the top right corners. I was thinking about something that would let the fighters stick out more (but only if it could be done en masse).

Can't really think of any American tactical bombers such as the Mosquito, Beaufighter or Typhoon. Didn't they just put bombs on the fighters and batteries of machin guns and cannons on mediums? So a P-40 seems fine there.

I think the letter differentiation makes it pretty clear, but I'll experiment with some different options. As an example, I made the maritime aircraft silhouette blue. The fighters could likewise be a different colour or the bar at the bottom could be different.

Think the bar would work best, lest the different colour might blend with the background. I made a hasty test. The fighter has that option, the tactical has a blue asterisk and the medium a circle. Just a test, i don't really like the latter two. But the line would work.

Another one, using part of your original image. Look how easily one can differ the fighters from the other types, just by glancing at the map.

Again, just as an added feature if it can easily be done. Your work is superb anyway.

Just another opinion. I think your solution Uxbridge makes the markers too busy. The different colors are just too much IMHO. I like the original concept myself.

Yes, there's just as many opinions on markers and sprites as there are gamers. And we're all right, in our own way. Personally, I prefer, as might be obvious, colour codes to differentiate things. But I do recognize most of the airplane silhouettes, so it's no big deal. I might even have a go at altering some markers myself.

If I'll find the time, that is.
