Does anyone have any good scenarios or know of any that are leading up to the current issue in Syria? With the deployment of US cruise missile capable boats in the area and the deployment of another CVN (possibly one already there) there are a lot of potential for things to go sideways.

Just a thought.. any scenarios would be nice-- thanks!

Sharana -> RE: War Drums Beating in Syria (4/11/2018 12:31:39 PM)

I think there was NATO vs Russia scenario from 2016, not much changed.

Right now there is no carrier in range and won't be for a week at least. The chances for fight between US and RU is slim, so just shooting cruise missiles against infrastructure isn't very "fun" in terms of CMANO :D

thewood1 -> RE: War Drums Beating in Syria (4/11/2018 12:48:24 PM)

You don't need a CVN for it to happen. The US has a lot of assets already in the area. Probably more usable assets than Syria and Russia. Not sure there is a will to use them with the British and French seeming like they will get involved.

leemiller24 -> RE: War Drums Beating in Syria (4/11/2018 1:45:52 PM)

Currently just a lot of words being thrown back and forth- verbal diplomacy if you will... and assets... no doubt there is a bunch of assets that can be pulled in quickly without a CVN on station. Does Russia still have the SU57, Fullbacks and the S400 battery there? I would be willing to bet the US/Allies have been monitoring those units closely if so. (again- it's just conjecture at this point- but isnt much of the scenarios conjecture as well?)

It appears to be the potential for setting up a confrontation involving some new technology from the US and Russia- again just a thought.

Sharana -> RE: War Drums Beating in Syria (4/11/2018 1:59:17 PM)

Su-57 were there for just 2 days, everything else is still there with minimal change. Both A-50s were flying the other day. If they got something more the last days we still can't know until another wave of sat. images pops up.

Dysta -> RE: War Drums Beating in Syria (4/11/2018 2:02:25 PM)

I don't know, maybe few waves of missiles exchange to wear down both sides' launchers before their Air Forces jump in.

leemiller24 -> RE: War Drums Beating in Syria (4/11/2018 2:05:51 PM)

Does the A50 have ELINT capability too? I understand the 57 doesn't currently have the full capability (as far as powerplant) to operate in full capacity.

That would also make great tools in a scenario.

Sharana -> RE: War Drums Beating in Syria (4/11/2018 3:52:32 PM)

It does, but there are also other ELINT platforms avalible. Su-57 is prototype and is not available asset in order to be taken into consideration.

leemiller24 -> RE: War Drums Beating in Syria (4/11/2018 3:55:08 PM)

In CMANO or actual operational?

Sharana -> RE: War Drums Beating in Syria (4/11/2018 4:05:03 PM)

In actual events and in CMANO as long as you aim to maintain realism instead of "what if" and "2020+ scenario".

Personally, I’m partial to Mediterranean Tsunami 2019 in the Community Pack! [:D]

Excroat3 -> RE: War Drums Beating in Syria (4/14/2018 1:30:39 AM)

Well, it's on now.

Airstrikes on airports in Damascus and videos of Syrian SAMs being launched are all over the news. France and UK are also involved.

mikeCK -> RE: War Drums Beating in Syria (4/14/2018 2:21:14 AM)

Seems to have been pretty limited. It’s already over absent a few clean ups later

Dysta -> RE: War Drums Beating in Syria (4/14/2018 4:14:20 AM)

The more SAM the SGA launched, the more we can say they got Russian and Iranian weapon aids.

Lowlaner2012 -> RE: War Drums Beating in Syria (4/14/2018 7:31:07 AM)

Nothing scary about suppressing a dictator that defies world views and law regarding chemical warfare. JASSMs were also used, launched from B-1's, and were most likely the stealth piece allowing the less stealth Tomahawks afterwards.

I highly doubt Russia would be so bold as to target an actual warship because it's then "Game On" to the next level. I would suspect that since we have conducted an Allied strike involving France and UK, that Russia will need to decide if vilifying 3 EU and 3 voting members of the UN would not bode well for them in the future. Though China has stated support of Russia should anything happen to NK, not so sure they would back them in attacking 3 powers armed with nuclear weapons and robust expeditionary forces. Not to mention, the economic impact of Russia and/or China doing anything against the 3. It was a precision strike, purposely avoiding Russian forces.

Dysta -> RE: War Drums Beating in Syria (4/14/2018 10:07:04 AM)

Indeed. They both want to save their faces given by the disastrous and uncontrollable outcome if both sides are met with end of pikes. Russia let US-ally air striking some non-critical assets while Russia helps Syria with limited interception to protect the airport. Syria should be thankful that it didn't get any worse.

Lowlaner2012 -> RE: War Drums Beating in Syria (4/14/2018 10:29:11 AM)

Your probably right, been playing to much command :-)

Dysta -> RE: War Drums Beating in Syria (4/14/2018 12:02:42 PM)

Another tweet at morning in Syria, people aren't too impressed with the air strike and back to business:

Losses and expenditures

As evident by the available data, 103 cruise missiles have been launched, including Tomahawk naval-based missiles as well as GBU-38 guided air bombs fired from the B-1B; the F-15 and F-16 aircraft launched air-to-surface missiles.

The Tornado airplanes of the UK RAF launched eight Scalp EG missiles.

The Syrian air defence systems, which are primarily the USSR-made AD systems, have successfully countered the air and naval strikes.

In total, 71 cruise missiles have been intercepted. The S-125, S-200, Buk, Kvadrat, and Osa Syrian AD systems were involved in repelling the attack.

The strike targeted Syrian air bases as well. Russia has registered the following data.

Four missiles targeted the Damascus International Airport; 12 missiles – the Al-Dumayr airdrome, all the missiles have been shot down.

18 missiles targeted the Blai airdrome, all the missiles shot down.

12 missiles targeted the Shayrat air base, all the missiles shot down. Air bases were not affected by the strike.

Five out of nine missiles were shot down targeting the unoccupied Mazzeh airdrome.

Thirteen out of sixteen missiles were shot down targeting the Homs airdrome. There are no heavy destructions.

In total 30 missiles targeted facilities near Barzah and Jaramana. Seven of them have been shot down. These facilities allegedly relating to the so-called “Damascus military chemical programme” were partially destructed. However, the objects have not been used for a long time, so there were no people and equipment there.

Dysta -> RE: War Drums Beating in Syria (4/14/2018 12:54:02 PM)

So how many missiles does Syria intercepted, to be exact. I heard numerous versions already.

13? 20? 30? 60? And now 71?

mikeCK -> RE: War Drums Beating in Syria (4/14/2018 12:57:18 PM)

The claim about 71 missiles being intercepted is from a Russian military official. Take it with a HUGE grain of salt.
Especially since i don’t believe an airbase was even targeted. Lol

All this stuff about 19 missiles at this airbase and 10 at that. Those places weren’t even targetted. Syrians had no idea what was happening
“According to Pentagon officials, a number of facilities were struck: a chemical weapons storage facility; a chemical weapons equipment storage and crucial command post near Homs; and a scientific research facility in Damascus, believed to be key in the production of chemical precursors.”

Filitch -> RE: War Drums Beating in Syria (4/14/2018 1:11:15 PM)

About 13. This is difficulties of translation. 13 missiles was shut down south of Damascus. This is not a number of all shot downed missiles.

Are we should take all Pentagons claims with a HUGE grain of salt?

mikeCK -> RE: War Drums Beating in Syria (4/14/2018 1:32:58 PM)

Lol. No
Pentagon briefing says no missiles were shot down
Photos of the target shows all 3 completely destroyed.

And no sir, no airbases were even attacked so where does this precise “19 missiles targeting an airbase were shot down” come from?

And yes, I believe an official US military briefing over the statements of a Russian General 13 hours after the strike

Do you really think that Syrians - operating 20-60 year old Air Defense equipment shot down 70% of terrain following cruise missiles coming in from various axis of attack and accompanied by EW jamming?

Dysta -> RE: War Drums Beating in Syria (4/14/2018 1:59:22 PM)

Depends. Trump alarmed Syrian defense because of his tweet, and hesitated on the last 24 hours. And do not forget Russia shares intels to Syrian SAM systems regardless their aged equipment, they're still warsaw standards.

13 is my estimated bet because I have heavy doubt that Syria can launch 107 SAMs against 107 allies' strikes. But giving it's a total lockdown of civilian passage, I can expect that US also want to cripple Syrian Air Force with the convenience of anti-Chemical strike, since most the bombardments against rebels are conducted by Syrian MiGs.

mikeCK -> RE: War Drums Beating in Syria (4/14/2018 2:18:30 PM)

There is no evidence they shot down anything and apparently didn’t even engage the missiles until after they were hitting.
One of the targets was in the middle of Damascus and was destroyed. A number of allied aircraft were used and none of those were shot down.

The AD System can be “on alert” all It wants but to engage a dozen missiles popping up on the horizon from different axis is extremely difficult to Defend against Even for a modern air defense system

Since the Russians are past masters at misinformation, propaganda, controlling the press and using information as a weapon. And the Pentagon is subject to judicial and public scrutiny - I've got no doubt about who to believe. However the dust has not yet settled, we probably need to quell our quest for instant BDA and accurate information and give it a couple days to settle down. It's not COMANO with God's Eye enabled.

Dysta -> RE: War Drums Beating in Syria (4/14/2018 2:44:08 PM)

Speaking of scenario, this event would be boring if no interception has been made, and no threat to any ally aircraft. Sometimes we should be thankful to play boring missions on milsim, because not all battles will ends epically IRL.

mikeCK -> RE: War Drums Beating in Syria (4/14/2018 2:54:41 PM)

True. Of course, IRL the military is trying to make it as lopsided and boring as possible. No one planning anything wants excitement!

But I agree, taking out 3 campuses with 110 tomahawks and JASSM-ERs isn’t a whole
Lot of fun to game
