When you set Engineers to repair bridges or roads or whatever, how can you tell what they are doing and whether they have finished their task? There seems to be no obvious tell tale sign.

Thank-you

btd64 -> RE: Engineers (2/14/2018 9:45:19 PM)

When you select say Rail Road Repair, Just a mouse over of the hex is needed after clicking the repair option....GP

gwgardner -> RE: Engineers (2/14/2018 10:57:52 PM)

In the war room I made a post about how it works in the scenario I'm playing, at least.

If the bridge or rail line is repaired after the attempt, the attempt was successful. Otherwise, it was unsuccessful.

TheeWarLord -> RE: Engineers (2/15/2018 12:56:26 AM)

Concur, you will hear the sound of repair over the bridge or railroad, additionally as Lemay states the bridge or railroad will be repaired ready for use.

I tried that but it didn't seem to tell me anything about the engineer, what it was doing, and whether it had finished.

warspite1

Right so its just a one time thing and I'll know straight away. I assumed it was x no. of turns.

Thanks all.

TheeWarLord -> RE: Engineers (2/15/2018 8:30:38 PM)

Right, one attempt, you can access your Eng. unit and it will show a probability of success, i.e 73%,92% ect. You can also divide your railroad units, and get at least 3 tries, but at a lower percentage. I use this on big scenarios, and railroad units can repair like Eng.'s. Good Luck.

elmo3 -> RE: Engineers (1/13/2019 7:45:17 PM)

Sorry for the thread necro but is there any way to see what units can do rail repair without searching every unit on the map individually? Playing Road to Moscow AGC II Smolensk and can't find any units with rail repair as their special ability. Thanks.

I've been known to go to the OOB and sort on Unit Type and scroll down looking for the RR engineers. Been working so far.

Thanks. When I do that all I see are ferry engineers so there must not be any RR engineers for the Germans in this scenario.

r6kunz -> RE: Engineers (1/13/2019 11:36:22 PM)

Thanks for your interest and feedback on the Road to Moscow series.

Actually, Army Group Center has several RR Repair units (Eisenbahn.Bau-Bn) that appear later. It took a while to get there.

Cheers

Thanks. Looks like a great scenario.

See post #17 in this thread:

The post states:

On the Button Panel, with the Unit Tab selected, on the third row, the fourth button cycles through the options

This button only cycles between the strength and movement points display on the counters:

Then those are the only options you have enabled. See posts #12 & #13 of that thread.

Oh, great - that's very useful, thanks!

elmo3 -> RE: Engineers (1/14/2019 10:35:58 AM)

Yeah that had me confused too until seeing those posts. I "assumed" those things were set by the scenario designer, not the player.

76mm -> RE: Engineers (1/14/2019 2:34:54 PM)

Is the chance of repairing a bridge tied to turn length at all? The chances of repairing a bridge during a one-hour turn should be less than during a full week turn, in fact there should probably be some minimum duration.

That's controlled by the scenario designer. Both by how many engineer squads he provides and by the engineering rate parameter.

Lobster -> RE: Engineers (1/15/2019 2:47:10 AM)

TOAW fails in many aspects when it comes to engineering and bridges. Not every bridge is the same. A bridge across a small river is not the same as a bridge across a huge river. Yet the game sees them both as the same thing.

gliz2 -> RE: Engineers (1/15/2019 8:00:30 AM)

Can the bridges be build in TAOW (so not rebuilt)?
I'm playing FITE2 and in some place that ze Germans did built them I'd love to do it as well.

cathar1244 -> RE: Engineers (1/15/2019 11:39:28 AM)

Bridges cannot be built as new structures. They can only be destroyed or repaired.

Cheers

You can leave a bridging unit in the hex as long as you want.

I see in the editor that engineers can be set for 1 to 999 with 100 being the typical setting. What does this mean? Does it mean the anything greater than 100 makes them more efficient and anything less than 100 makes them less efficient? Or do I have it backwards? Or am I way off?

8.5.2 in the manual.

Thanks. That is what I have been looking for.
