With all the extra ship types in AE, did the US Navy ice cream ship make it in? [:'(]

PeteG662 -> RE: US Navy ice cream ship (6/18/2009 3:43:43 AM)

You know the Navy has those white uniforms to ensure when they spill the vanilla it doesn't show.
The Army are a bunch of slobs and will eat anything so they adopted the BDU uniforms to hide almost everything.

Army retired.

LST Express -> RE: US Navy ice cream ship (6/18/2009 3:47:55 AM)

I'm a slob but if I was a duck, I would want to serve on that boat![:D]

Too bad ships can't be captured, a floating ice cream factory would be a big morale boost for the IJN in 1944. [:D]

well, it would be difficult to assign a DL increase for the hex with the ice cream ship and the accompanying music..."Fur Elise", increase 1, "Greensleeves" increase 2...

I take it none of the posters in this thread will ever be asking a favor of the AE Naval Team Programmer, who is ex-USN.

PeteG662 -> RE: US Navy ice cream ship (6/18/2009 8:45:11 PM)

Don,

I try not to ever ask favors.

Pete

hey, i'm ex-navy too, Don! but us brown shoes based on land didn't care too much if ice cream ships were around...we just walked to the PX or out the gate for ice cream and other little luxuries... [;)]

LST Express -> RE: US Navy ice cream ship (6/18/2009 11:41:34 PM)

I apologize to the people here that I offended and I wouldn't dream of going to Matrix brass for favors, ever.

jcjordan -> RE: US Navy ice cream ship (6/19/2009 12:42:21 AM)

I've got a sense of humor or is it just senility, I'm not sure as it's a fine line between the 2 [:'(]

Kwik E Mart -> RE: US Navy ice cream ship (6/19/2009 1:12:51 AM)

BigJ62 -> RE: US Navy ice cream ship (6/19/2009 2:48:51 AM)

You boys laugh but one night after I got off watch I went down to the mess decks to see what they had for mid-ratsí and they were serving steak, lobster and ice cream.

Well, I wonder if that USN insignia Don is sporting got it's origins from this:

Now...I rather not imagine him with long hair and in leather pants...latter could be Navy tradition, though.... [:D][:D]

Sardaukar -> RE: US Navy ice cream ship (6/20/2009 10:18:26 AM)

I think I have sent Don sulking...and delayed AE for a month!

Now now, little bit of interservice rivalry is good. [:'(]

Nope, its the rating badge for a Navy Missile Technician. It is defined as a missile in flight, passing through a representation of an expanding rod warhead. In the fleet, the similarity between the symbol and characterizations of male and female gender specific organs is noted. It is called "penis and vagina", but in vernacular.

As to long hair, I'd be happy if I had any left at all.

I wonder how many folks know which movie that is a reference to [:)]

pmelheck1 -> RE: US Navy ice cream ship (6/20/2009 9:28:59 PM)

I used to really enjoy midnite rats down on the flight line during my trip to the sandbox just after the first gulf war. We would shut down the shop and head down to the flight line chow hall as a flight. Anyone else ever have powdered milk ice cream? It's unique to say the least...

It was a book first, you know.

Yes. But since I saw the movie first I guess that was the first reference point I thought of.

Well, as the original author, it was intended as a reference to the movie, which is all I've seen. I am aware of both the book and the play, but have experienced neither. The play apparently takes place entirely in the context of the court-martial, so all you know of the events is what is said in testimony. That'd be interesting.

[Note: I would apologize for hijacking the thread, but when it starts out asking if the OOB has ice cream ships there's not much to apologize for [8|]]
