Mistmatz -> Recon mission in AE (6/6/2009 11:25:24 AM)

With less intel generally in AE (esp. no mouseover), I wonder if the recon airgroups are either splitted in smaller segments to allow a higher number of targets to be recon'ed or, if 'no target' is selected, more targets are recon'ed automatically. Or if it is as it ever was in Witp one group - one target.

If it is the latter, what is the feeling of the play testers, is there enough intel available to launch operations without giving your intentions right away due to limited number of recon flights in the target area?

Yes some recon squadrons can be broken down (I was thinking they all could be, but did some checking and found some that couldnt). The Jap has some 6 plane recon squadrons that can break down into 3 - 2 plane elements even. Same with patrol squadrons.

Edit: For recon missions you no longer get the little red line pointing back to their base of origin either. Just a quick pop to the hex being snooped.

The Allies also have a useful number of photo recon air units - even from early on in the campaign game. I based a Buffalo photo recon unit at Andaman and got some good use out of it.

Is that Red line been removed from everything or just recon ( good improvement btw)

Removal, yes. The line points back towards the direction the raid comes from but only goes all the way back to the point of origin if the base has a current detection level high enough to know whats there (DL 2 I believe but not 100% sure). So if you have been doing your job and keeping recon over enemy bases you will know where its coming from. If you havent, then you wont, but you will know what general direction.

Great - sounds better and better

Can the allied recon squadrons be broken down into flights like the Japanese?

Thanks for the answers guys, this sounds indeed all very promising. [:)]

The ones I remember already start broken down. They are smallish like 5 plane units - with 2-3 planes upon arrival. Many of the Japanese ones start broken down as well.

Yes the Jap ones are usually broken down as well. I (personally) have found it more useful to re-combine and then re-break down in some cases. For example: The Toko Mavis patrol group has a max size of 18 aircraft and has 1 - 3 plane detachment at start (so parent is limited to 15). If you re-combine, you can then break the unit into 3 - 6 plane elements.

Thanks, guys, even in CHS recon is one of the allies achilles heels... this will help a lot.
