Missouri_Rebel -> Projected Cost of MWiF (10/19/2007 4:46:48 AM)

This is definitely not your run-of-the-mill game. Will it's apparent complexity warrant a higher price?

Any ideas on the cost yet?

Sorry if this has been covered before.

Mo Reb

jchastain -> RE: Projected Cost of MWiF (10/19/2007 5:10:41 AM)

And while we're at it, could someone please tell us what the Social Security COLA will be for 2009?

That is to say... I like fishing as much as the next guy but I think this question is a wee bit premature.  [;)]

This is up to Matrix (David Heath).

kram -> RE: Projected Cost of MWiF (10/19/2007 3:38:59 PM)

In the MG-Fall06-catalog.pdf file joint in GOA is rated at 89,99$ Boxed and 79,99$ download, hope this can give us an idea of the final price.

brian brian -> RE: Projected Cost of MWiF (10/19/2007 6:50:18 PM)

ahh but the value = priceless

Shannon V. OKeets -> RE: Projected Cost of MWiF (10/19/2007 9:30:40 PM)

Patrice has made this advert obsolete. There are now 252 'countries'. I am going with 250+ in stuff I now write for marketing.

composer99 -> RE: Projected Cost of MWiF (10/19/2007 9:58:21 PM)

Not that long ago I would have looked at those numbers and cried out "curses, that's $120!".

No longer. Ah.... I love currency parity. [:D]

I hope that you won't make it obsolete by decreasing the number of hexes, with your cursed map trimming idea [:D]

That's coming up soon. Once Rob sends me the revised bitmaps for the last few hexes, I'll compress all the bitmaps and reassess MWIF's demand for bitmap resources. That has been causing the problem Peter (a beta tester) has been having if I am not mistaken.

Neilster -> RE: Projected Cost of MWiF (10/20/2007 4:45:14 AM)

What about the spherical map? [:D][:'(]

Cheers, Neilster

Can't afford the helium, and hydrogen is too dangerous. We thought about using hot air but there isn't enough about politics in the game to sustain that.

I don't know, it seems pretty straightforward when compared to, say, architecture. [:)]

War in the Pacific. Even three years after release, the players are still trying to figure out the finer points within the game engine.

I don't know. I've played both and I'd say its a push. The thing is, most people on this forum have the board game version of MWiF and have played for years and are therefore familiar with all the rules. For someone coming in fresh, like everyone did with WITP, its a pretty steep learning curve.

To me Moderate implies that its in the middle of the pack or something. Compared to competing WWII grand strategy games like Commander EAW, GGWAW, SC2, HOI 2, and that History Channel game, I'd say its right there at the top of the list.

Outside of WITP the only thing that even comes close to this is HOI 2 (in terms of complexity).

Currency Parity -- Heck the Canadian Dollar is stronger than the US one.... [:D]

I love rubbing that in with my Father in Law (who is American and thinks America is still great and not a waning Superpower)

Hey, the change in value in the US dollar is all according to plan.

Yeah, we're really struggling. [8|]

4% unemployment. More homeowners than any time in history. The average home has 4 bedrooms and 2 or more new cars. 4 TV's with 200 channels and 3 computers with 6 mBit internet. Throw in an XBox 360 or PS3 in case we get bored. A cell phone for every kid. We all have central air and heating. We have the most powerful military and largest economy in the world. And its growing at a rate that is only challenged by the emerging industrial countries. Certainly not Western Europe or Canada!

And when Canadians get tired of waiting in line for an operation that would save their life from 'free' (paid by taxes instead of premiums) medical care they come down here to freeload off of our system.

And we all make enough money that the cost of a new video game is pretty much meaningless. [:D]

How do we get by?

composer99 -> RE: Projected Cost of MWiF (10/23/2007 8:00:09 PM)

There are plenty, plenty of forums where back-and-forth on the real-world United States can be discussed, in intricate detail, with more or less ideological underpinning, and so on and so forth.

Any chance we can keep this one focused on MWiF?

Please let us keep the pro- and anti-US over-generalizations to a minimum. I enjoy having currency parity, but within the confines of this forum I don't really care what it says about the economic prospects of the US, Canada, or anywhere else. All that matters is that it's a lot less expense to buy a computer game priced in $US.

Arron69 -> RE: Projected Cost of MWiF (10/23/2007 8:33:53 PM)

hear, hear.

I didn't start it. I was only responding to what coreymas wrote. I too come to this forum to discuss MWiF but when someone decides to take a cheap shot at my country I feel compelled to respond. Maybe people should think twice before they do that. If he would be so kind as to remove the offending remark from his post I will be happy to delete mine.

Now, back to the original subject of this post, the projected cost. I would expect this game to be rather pricey. Frankly, the price indicated above of $80 download is an absolute STEAL IMO. If this thing has a functional and challenging AI it will be the greatest strategy game ever developed for a PC. Its a good price no matter what the conversion rate. [;)]

Speaking of the AI, anyone who has not contributed to the AI threads who thinks they have anything to contribute, please do. That's how the AI is going to actually be any good.

There's a "sticky" thread at the top of the forum that has links to all the AI threads (if memory serves) at http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1555915. Some of the countries have been extensively discussed. Others, not so much.

mlees -> RE: Projected Cost of MWiF (10/25/2007 5:22:27 AM)

If you buy the boardgame version of WiF, with all the expansion modules (Convoy's in Flames, etc.), you'll spend a tad more than $80.00.

...And need a huge table space for many weeks (months for some) away from curious kids, pets, or any other "natural" disaster that may occur [:)]
That alone makes this game a Godsend for those who can now use the dining room table for things like dining again [:)]...

coreymas -> RE: Projected Cost of MWiF (10/25/2007 5:36:05 PM)

And i did not start anything either.

I did not go into details about the economic situation. I just made a quick comment about teasing my Father in law.

So place your blame elsewhere please.

And to get back on topic. I would proably pay 45-55$ for this game.

I personnally think that pricing it higher than that would price it out of the "hey i am curious about this" purchaser.

Corey

SamuraiProgrmmr -> RE: Projected Cost of MWiF (10/25/2007 6:20:03 PM)

If I offended anyone, I apologize.  I was trying to be funny.   Thus, the smiley.

But, on to other things.

If there is a demo, that will go a long way toward satisfying the curious and hooking them into a purchase.

You cheep bastard. In denmark this is normal price for a game.
