[FIXED] CEC capability

Post by Kobu »

Hi
I have been testing the new update (blind shoots for ARH weapons) and work perfectly besides all ARH weapon now work correctly (good work!!), AAW, SAMs, surface to air missiles etc... but the CEC capability dont works. I have attached a simple scenary (take place in the sea of china) that involves a Super hornet with 120s model D a E-2D and a T-50 to test CEC.

The T-50 place near E-2D and this detect it whitout problem, at 65NM the Super hornet cant detect the T-50 but their 120s D have CEC capability and E-2D have Amraam datalink with CEC capability so that the super hornet would be able to fire amraam to T-50 guided by E-2D.

I also have tested CEC capability with aegis datalink CEC capable and aegis missiles with CEC and neither works.

Regards

Hmm its working fine for me, I manually ordered the AIM-120D's to be fired and they were guided in by the E-2D. I even destroyed the Terminator FLIR system on the F-18 to make sure it wasn't guiding the missile.

The CEC is working, the question is about the launching.

Do the following test - put Su-35 instead of Su-57 and turn on the F-18s radar. After you launch the missiles turn off the radar and order the fighter to go the opposite way leaving the mid course corrections only to the E-2D. You will see it's finding the target every 10 seconds (the dish is rotating after all) and providing mid course update for the AIM-120D.

To launch the missile you need high quality track and it looks like the game currently wants X band accuracy (like fighter radar) that the L-band radar of the E-2D simply can't provide. It can give "good enough" location for ARH missile as it just needs to get in right the area before turning it's own radar on for terminal guidance (that's why you don't need high accuracy like on SARH missile) and as you will see the mid course updates are working just fine.

So based on that you should be able to launch as well without having high quality track before that. I will ask Dimitris if this is intended.

Sorry, but with the CEC, normally the F-18 does not need to turn on its radar

https://news.usni.org/2014/01/23/navys-next-air-war
“That F/A-18E/F and the F-35C out front, they don’t even need to have their radars on,” Manazir said. “They don’t need to be contributing to the picture themselves, they are just receiving this data.”

Moreover, the F/A-18E/F would not even necessary even control the weapon that it launches—other than pulling the trigger. The E-2D, the EA-18G or even another Hornet or F-35C could guide that weapon, Manazir said.

We found the cause for this, it was a DB error (missing CEC-enable flag on AIM-120D). We'll push out a new DB when possible.

Thank you Dimitris, and if you could take a look at the CEC of the MICA missile.

Any sources that this is an operationally deployed capability, rather than a one-off show?

Well, the datasheet in the manufacturer's website (https://www.mbda-systems.com/product/mica/) mentions a "datalink". And GlobalSecurity mentions a standard MICA RF missile being used in the above test... (https://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/europe/mica.htm)

Tested this now.

The southern Burke cannot blind-fire based on data from the northern one, because they are not within radar-LOS. Therefore the ERAM cannot link up on launch.

If you add a suitable airborne node, like an E-2D, the southern Burke begins firing without problem.

Has this stopped working again? I haven't been able to get E-2D to support AIM-120D in flight from any launch platform.

I used the scenario from the original post with the current database (changed target to Su-35), and the AAM CEC doesn't appear to be functioning. Am I missing anything in the setup?

May I also add - modelling CEC is an excellent capability so hats off (again) to the devs for a great implementation!!

<edit> Build 1147.30, DB3K v.488.
<edit 2> same result with DB3K v.489.

Note that adding to a thread that has FIXED against is probably not going to get the DEVs attention. If it is an issue again, it should be raised as a new incident so that they can track it properly.
Thanks
