Advice and some help needed

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Advice and some help needed

Post by CRW1940 »

Hello, I am new to Gary Grigsbys war in the east (I have 21 hours on the game so far), and I need some advice and guidance, specifically playing as the Axis in the road to minsk, smolensk and operation barbarossa scenarios.

I have been watching a 12 video tutorial series on youtube, and I am starting to understand the mechanics of the game, but for me, it is the tactical and strategic area of the game I feel I am having issues with.

I have tried to play the road to minsk, smolensk, and the operation barbarossa scenarios, and each of them I feel I am doing something wrong. I make an encirclement around the soviet units just outside of minsk, and I get them all to surrender, but I am honestly unsure what to do next, and how to do another encircle just like the one I do in the first turn of the game. If I am playing barbarossa, and I am trying to take smolensk, the soviets have lots of units available, and its hard for me to move all of my infantry up when I need them, and time is running out. When I take Mogilev and I am right between the Dnepr and Dvina, I cannot seem to launch any attacks the Dnepr to try to encircle Smolensk, vice versa with the Dvina to the north.

I also wanted to write about how I am able to destroy the soviet airforce units outside of Minsk, but when I try to do so even further after I have taken Minsk , it says my aircraft cannot move that far, and I try to move them up and feel I have difficult moving all my aircraft in the right spots.

Is it possible I am doing something wrong? I keep trying to play the game over and over to see If I can finally pinpoint my mistakes, but I decided I would ask here on the forums and see if anyone might be able to give me some advice.

thank you

There is a much better guide on the WITE Library that walks you through the Road to Leningrad scenario which is the Boot Camp. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5BD_r ... rCX9LQ07Lw

The Germans are a lot like a coiled snake. You run rampant for turns 1-2, then you push up your infantry to prepare for the next attack while you pull your panzers back to refit and refuel. A lot of players do a HQ Build Up on turn 3 to then attack on Turns 4-5. Simply moving all your tanks forward every turn is not very effective since they get fatigued and run out fuel.

I learned to play by just screwing around against the AI for a grand campaign to get a feel for what to do.

thank you

Very hard to tell what the problem is. Send me your save and I'll have a look but it's my guess that you have out run your supply chain.

As far as your aircraft are concerned, your air bases are too far behind the front line or you have set your airgoup range too short.

Sorry for posting here, but I can't do it in the relevant thread.

If I got it right 1.12.06 can't be installed on top of the Steam version cuz it's not official patch?

lekseus - you need to just switch to the Beta which Steam allows you to do.
