Distant Worlds 2 -- Autumn release date (hopefully)

Post by martok »

A few days ago, DasTactic did an interview with Marco Minoli, Marketing Director for Slitherine/Matrix. (An interesting video, by the way; it's worth watching). Towards the end (around 1:03:10), Marco did let drop that they're aiming for a release in September or October now. Fingers crossed!

Bizarre there's nothing here on the forums about this crucial bit of news.

Marco is officially the only one really allowed to talk publicly about release dates, but I can confirm that estimate is our latest internal one.

Nice. So our original guesstimates of a mid/late 2021 release ended up correct. Going to be a simultaneous release to all platforms or does one get first crack like the matrix store?

Really hope you guys aren't being too rushed to release, it's understandable, the game was in development for 5 years now? Hope you guys are all in agreement when the codebase is "Gold"

From my side the release could be later then early, they they squeeze the bugs ! :-)
Nothing worse then hugh day0 patch, that show the game is basicly Alpha and not released.

While I agree, I swear people say exactly the same thing before every single post about a DW release. [:D]

Eh they have had a decade to refine the game so I don't see much after launch patching past hardware issues since its going full 3d. The actual core gameplay and balance should be golden by now.

I would like to echo other sentiments in this thread that we appreciate you guys taking the time to make sure it releases in the right state and not putting a deadline in the way of the games quality on release. Thanks for all you do!

Incidentally, Marco said they're looking at an October release in this video. He does say that DW2 will be out this year, however.
