Anti-Tank

When your units assault an enemy position do the anti-tank units(0 attack value) serve any purpose?

Yes, they may absorb enemy fire but they do not contribute to the attack.

You cannot even order them to attack or bombard. So they do not take part at all

I'm not sure about that - I recall some discussions that said A/T guns play a role in fort reduction efforts during combat.
