I thought I'd drive my ships up to Rangoon and engage the Jap ships. I sank a BB and two CL's and several DD's. There's more ships yet to engage but I burned my turn and it ended early.

All my ships are just offshore at Rangoon after raiding the Jap ships that were assisting the Jap troops push northward. Those ships are gone now and Karl has flown every plane he owns to the Bangkok / Rangoon area ready to intercept my ships as they reposition to Ceylon. I can expect to lose some ships just to get them out of range of Karl's LBA. I've decided that I am already well on my way getting closer to Tokyo by advancing through the Celebes, thence to Mandano, thence to Manila, thence to Formosa, and then leap to the smaller Japanese islands just south of the main island. I've already dispatched most of the Jap ships so I can well imagine that this avenue of advance is doable.

I made some landings on Mindano with the intent to clear out the entire island of Japs and I expect it will take a couple of months. I lost a BB and several DD's moving the troops to where they are now. Lots of Jap Sea Int going on. I flew in a lot of fighters but they didn't always help out a lot. This is going to be a long war.

I sailed in some more troops and I'm using the ships I have left to bombard the Jap airfields and ports. As well as the Jap troops that I can reach.

So true. I'm pretty sure that in late 42 the Allies were very much still on the run in the pacific.

The US won the battle of Midway in early June1942. They began their push up the Solomon islands in August and began pushing the Japanese back in New Guinea by the end of September.
Of course that is a long way from pushing back through the Philippines.

I've been pounding Karl's airfields the past several turns to reduce the threat from the air. I've been losing DD's moving my ships to different positions, about 4 of them so far this turn. But I need to get rid of the enemy aircraft to allow my land forces to work without interruption(s). But I've been making progress moving north and have gained two airfields and a port. So far so good.

This is the situation on mainland China and it has been since about T20. Neither of us, it seems, is able to make any headway on the other. I considered moving my ships just offshore to help out but the enormous amount of Jap LBA surrounding that area precludes the execution of that mission. Karl has stocked up the Phillippines with all kinds of aircraft so I'd best not venture so close to that just yet. My ships have been bombarding each turn for about five turns now and they are starting to turn yellow and need rest and most of the ships have some damage to a greater or lesser degree. It might not hurt to move the ships to Java and rest them and let them refit.

The Japs have made a breakthrough and Karl has railed a LOT of Jap troops to this hole in my lines and no doubt intends to pour a lot of troops through that hole and devestate my forces. I have no answer to this incursion and I fear that he will soon own all of China.

T77, Samar
I've cleared the island of Mindanao and I found an open port on Samar and I moved some units into it and flew some fighters up there for a CAP. I lost about 4 DD's, got some damage on the carrier Essex, and lost a handful of fighters gaining that port. I've got to capture the smaller islands just south of the PI so that I can base some aircraft there to support operations in the PI. Also, I'd like to clear out Brunei in Borneo just to rid myself of a Jap port and airfield so close to my path of advance. A glance at the air losses meter says that the air war has heated up quite a bit lately. Which is a good thing. I can build aircraft faster than he can and I've just received my first squadron of Hellcats on a new carrier at Pearl so things are looking up. There's 177 turns left in the game.

RE: Pacific At War Karl Japs Larry Allies
T78, Rangoon
The fighting is fierce and unforgiving near Rangoon lately. I'm using my bombers as CS and even some direct attacks to try to stop the progress the Japs are making. I've got some units that are nearly cut off that I've got to try to back out of their dangerous extended positions. My direct attacks by air is prompting a lot of interception by Jap fighters which triggers mine and the result is that the air war in this area is fairly hot. I've gotten so many fighters and bombers in this area that I'm almost at a parity with the Jap air forces.
Mindanao SITREP
Now that the island is cleared of enemy forces I've moved a lot of troops, planes, and ships into that AO and I've started a program to clear out all the little islands just south of the PI in preparation for an assault from several directions on the Manila area. It's been turned into a fortress by Karl and I'm going to have to spend several turns bombarding with ships and planes to soften up the Jap defenses.
Chinese Situation
The Japs have broken through the Chinese lines in several places and have started destroying my units a few at a time and they will own China within about six months game time. I don't much care about China all that much, but a Jap victory there will release a Gargantuan amount of troops and equipment Karl can use somewhere else. I'll have to find a way to trap them all in China if possible.

Here's what's happening just south of the PI. I've captured several of the smaller islands and there's still a few to clear out yet. As you can see the supply levels aren't the greatest I've ever seen in this game but might yet be adequate to continue the advance if I rotate my units as necessary to maintain their fighting strength. The Jap fighters and bombers are making their presence felt in that every time I move anything via water I usually get intercepted and suffer damage as a result. So I have to provide lots of escorts when moving troops. I've flown in all the fighters that will fit on the available forward airfields and the bombers are parked where they are all in range and I'm using them ( the bombers ) to do direct attacks on the Jap units defending on the smaller islands to support the assaults I make. I'm optimistic that I can fight my way ashore in the PI but it might take lots of softening up first before any amphibious efforts can succeed.

I've captured the smaller islands south of the PI so I guess the next step is the PI itself.

The Japs are slowly forcing their way through my lines with heavy losses to show for it. I just loaded this turn so the air losses meter was still showing 0's so I opened the air briefing to see what the stats are and I see how the air war is still hot. Some of my squadrons have reached a proficiency of 75% already. All of them are improving slowly.

T81, Manila
I made a successful landing on the southern coast of the PI last turn and the Japs scrambled to block it. The supply level is '8' at the port where I landed which isn't quite enough for serious operations so other landings are indicated. Manila itself is a fortress as you can see in the image. I feel like I need more airfields and ports than I currently own so I'm going to concentrate on those facilities in my landings. I haven't moved anybody yet having just now opening this turn so I need to inspect all the naval units and park all those that are seriously damaged and repair them.

A Chinese blockade would be required, otherwise that crapload of troops will end up filling every island.

I made some more assaults and got ashore in two places and failed in another. The supply levels for my units in the PI is borderline inadequate. But progress is being made.

Actually, I don't mind if he captures China and keeps going to India etc. because all I need concentrate on is the capture of Okinawa or Tokyo and it will all be over.ORIGINAL: StuccoFresco
