Too much plastic

Post by MrsWargamer »

It's been too long (this lockdown), and I have built too many tanks, way too many tanks. Big Tiger's Standard Tigers, different looking Tigers. Elastic tracks, link tracks, metal tracks, a bajillion links.

Ugly nostalgic planes, awesome cutting edge planes. Diecast planes. How many Lancs do I need?

I'm enjoying getting out on my bike for 2 hours in a day, but there's never anywhere to bike to.
And the day is longer than 2 hours.

I waaaaant to play my big board games, but, I want the space for the train layout.
So I guess it's time to actually have a computer wargaming renaissance.

Back in 2000-2005 I was all over Steel Panthers.
Not sure if I need to return to Steel Panthers, but, I'm getting the itch for operational.
And I have some great titles to play with.

Just wondering who wins the contest.
The house favourite is usually TOAW IV.
But recent newcomers Strategic Command and Unity of Command II are hoping it's them.

I'm trying to adjust my life to the new normal.
Restaurants, nah, but I wasn't much into that.
Partying nightlife, well, not like I had much.
Travel, I'm not in a rush to be crammed in with humanity. And the cost will be up too I expect.

Time to get in love with being at home with a wargame again.
It was big with me in the 80s.
And between 2000 - 2007 I was all over the computer wargame scene.

Then life sort of happened around 2012. Wargames were just not as possible for a while.
Well, that ain't the case now eh.
I looked out into June of 2020, and realized, shit, I have nothing going on at all.
And while ya, covid kinda put a lot of things on hold, it's not really controlling MY daily routine.

Man what I would give for my old ASL buddy, or my friend that played Up Front and Rommel in the Desert.
All those days of playing A3R.

But it looks like I'm going to be killing pixels instead of cardboard.
Wargame, 05% of the time.
Play with Barbies 05% of the time.
Play with Legos 10% of the time.
Build models 20% of the time
Shopping 60% of the time.
Exlains why I buy em more than I play em.

I assume MrsWargamer you visit the Multi-Man publishing site as they seem to have the ASL license, stuff seems pricey to me, but I don't buy cardboard anymore.

Used to be one of their most prolific fans actually.

They don't have the license, Hasborg does. They just have permission to market it.

Yep, pricey. New, a full set (I mean really full) is at least 5000 bucks. And nearly impossible to get as it is rarely in print and in stock.

Any time you see ANY computer wargame for under 150 bucks, consider it the same cost just to enter ASL (rule book Beyond Valur module).
Games like Gary's titles, are 'inexpensive' in the mind of an ASLer.

You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.
