Support units in attack.

When infantry attacks, support units remain in the deep rear, which means their firepower isn't utilised.

Which kind of Support units are we talking about here?

Are you referring to how the 'Infantry' force AI behaves when it attacks?

HMG teams, GMG teams for example, which cannot move at all or only at a very slow pace and does no have a vehicle either.

Completely useless in an attack and therefore also to buy in a campaign.

Yes, I've modded some of that to increase "maxSpeed". Real easy to do. Let me know if I can help.

The ZSU-23x2-4 is the only tough one when modding non-Soviet WP forces, as it's hard to tell which one to change in the xml database. And that in particular in the Chechnya custom database. Still, that DB is worth downloading. It's on the forums. [:)]

Yes. Direct fire heavy weapons like MGs, ATGMs, etc. should be a part of fire element when conducting fire and manoeuvre. The AI leaves them behind.

Some aspects of this issue cannot be addressed until we re-work OOB and company structure system. For example Soviet BTR company has MG and ATG teams mounted in proper rides which currently would be used just as a part of dismounts.

Like the one in the Combat Mission series?

Is this a consideration for the future or actively being planned / developed?

The main issues is that in CM, a support unit can use any transport available. Giving real-world tactical flexibility. In AB, on the attack or in flexible defense, your support units become little more than anchors if you have to move any significant distance.

Can we give support infantry the same assault / maneuver / defending AI with normal line infantry? Of course they may not be perfect for support team (MG/ATGM/AGL), but still, it would be better than nothing. If there is a dedicated AI for those teams, it would be perfect. But I felt AGL and MG team behavior in Chechen mode was OKish... didn't tested ATGM though.

Eventually there should be an AI taxi for AI support units, which has been suggested from beta.

If re-work OOB and company structure system can solve this issue, I think those are worth to invest time and install in this game, isn't it?

I wish you guys are working on them. Cheers!
