MagicMissile vs Tyrone

Post by MagicMissile »

Hello everyone!

My first AAR so expect lots of mistakes and my photo editing skills are so so. So don´t have any high expectations :). All comments, tips and tricks are welcome.
I havent played past 22 turns in PBEM yet and only one game vs AI into 1941 so don´t know what to expect but looking forward to learn and get better.

This is a mirror match with Tyrone this is the one where I play the Axis. Allies don´t do too much in the beginning so makes sense to make a AAR from Axis pov but later on in the war I hope to get more allied comments fom Tyrone.

Here end of turn 2. It went really well, usually does but sometimes you can get unlucky but this time Poalnd fell easily.

Turn 3

Netherlands, Denmark and Luxembourg conquered. Netherland was a costly and close affair. Took 5 attacks on Amsterdam before it fell, ususally only takes one or two.

Lots of air battles with quite severe losses.

England is in a hurry to secure the French colonies of North Africa and the middle east.

If I understand the rules when France falls all ports will still be British and the rest will convert to German control? In essence an early Torch by 2 years and some?

I think anything in a ZOC of a Allied unit converts, the rest go Axis.
You do need to occupy the two critical towns.

Not much between our two games; Poland, Denmark and Netherlands fall on nearly the same timescale.

Turn 4 not much to report. Shuffle some troops from east to west.

Tyrone doing better than I am in the airwar. In both games my losses are higher.

No need for a screenshot not much to see and I expect that to be true for quite a number of turns.

Turn 5.

Nothing to report weather bad with heavy rain.

Losses so far 35 grpund and 34 air. Allies 10 French air 20 British air + minor countries. Not too good but neither is it a disaster I think.

Turn 7.

Air war continues to go quite badly. Sent out my subs for the first time we will see if they can do some damage or not. Started a small strategic bombing campaign against the english midlands scored 4 hits.

England declared war against Persia. Learnt something new wasn´t sure if you could do that. Here I miss some kind of reaction from the Soviet Union who probably wpuldn´t have been too happy about that :).

England declared war against Persia.
No we didn't, I declared war against Iraq and Persia flipped.
Maybe Soviets wouldn't be too happy about being surrounded by Axis !!!

Not good for the Allies as Axis are now getting a ton of oil for free, should have done this better.

Aha that´s how it works.

Yes I agree with Axis doing the same thing. There should be some kind of random chance that Sovietunion can declare war if for example Germany declares war on Turkey or Axis occupies Iraq/Persia. Like Stalin would think enough is enough and declares war or Stalin would still be afraid of a war with Germany and do not declare war.

Turn 8

A turn of cold weather and Germany grab the chance to take out Belgium.

The strategic bombing raid led to a big counterstrike by allied airforces inflicting very heavy loses for the airforce. Lesson learnt for sure [:)]. Luftwaffe in serious trouble.

Yes, good attack on Belgium. Just hope next turn is not another Cold or I will take some damage.
Iraq falls, will take another couple of turns to capture the Persian oil.

French tried to invade the Netherlands by sea and lost two units to the Luftwaffe, how come my air force never did that in my last game !!!

Haha so Hermann can do something right :).

If you want to share what was the idea with the invasion? There are no harbours to capture. Is it just to run around and cause some havoc?

Turn 9

1939 ends. Allies advances one hex into Belgium. Unfortunately there is no armoured thrust through the Ardennes for now.
Luftwaffe retreats out of allied air range to lick their wounds for a bit.

I am happy with the conquest of Belgium but the airlosses maybe not fatal but really really bad.

Looking forward to 1940.

Turn 10

1940 starts. All quiet on the western front. RAF retreated to England but BEF pretty big 6 units in France right now.

Luftwaffe resting. Experience in fighter groups low need to restore it somehow. I don´t think me singing Lili Marlene will help much :).

Turn 12-14

All quiet on the western front.

There is a little bit of action in the north atlantic none good for Germany. One sub was sent out in Fleet mode, pretty sure it was in raider mode before but lesson learnt always check. Anyway that sortie cost 4 sub factors. Then a Britisg carrier found 2 groupsand sunk 4 su b factors. So 10 merchants 2 escorts for 12 subs not too impressive.

Luftwaffe have recovered after massive infusion into the reinforcement budget.

I vary it throughout the game depending on what I want to build and how many reinforcements are needed for combat.
