v1.23.00 Beta, Update 23/09/2019

Post by JosephStephenson »

Empire in Arms has been updated to beta version 1.23.00

You can download the patch from:

Check the full Changelog below!

Known Issues
Upgrading from 1.00 to versions 1.08.07 and beyond should be comprehensive and should not require any special upgrade methods to be utilized.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR V1.23.00: This version introduces new data files and setup files for the 1812 Grand Campaign. Database data file numbers 001 and 002 are used for the 1805 Grand Campaign, and 003 and 004 are used for the 1812 Grand Campaign. Table data files eianw001.tpj is used for the EIA Classic campaigns (eianw001.ged for 1805 and eianw003.ged for 1812) and eianw002.tpj is used for the EIH Alternate campaigns (eianw002.ged for 1805 and eianw004.ged for 1812). Any players desiring to make modifications to these campaigns should understand how these two table data files are integrated separately into the database data files.

There may be some issues with Microsoft Vista/Win7 (Screen sizing errors, game not running, etc.) and if you do see any difficulties then try the following:
1. Right click on the EiANW.exe file
2. Click properties
3. Click the compatibility tab
4. Check off the compatibility mode and then switch to something other than Vista (e.g., Windows XP Service Pack 3).
We have also found that Win7/Vista handles the Load Setups/Load Saved Game dialog boxes differently and may require manual navigation to proper directories. We are looking to fix this in a future release for Win7/8/10 compatibility.
Upgrading an existing game while battle files are in the \Battles directory may cause unit location problems. Please delete files in your \Battles directory (after completing your battles) before
upgrading.

Upgrading may cause intermittent font issues. This may look like you are missing text/buttons. To remedy this, please REBOOT after loading a patch!

Pressing a key to skip the Matrix movie from playing may not always work, depending on the machines video card buffer size.
There may be some issues with Microsoft Vista/Win7 (Screen sizing errors, game not running, etc.) and if you do see any difficulties then try the following:
1. Right click on the EiANW.exe file
2. Click properties
3. Click the compatibility tab
4. Check off the compatibility mode and then set to Windows XP Service Pack 2.

We have also found that Win7/Vista handles the Load Setups/Load Saved Game dialog boxes differently and may require manual navigation to proper directories.
We strongly recommend the following clean installation process:
1. Save any game save files and other custom files.
2. Uninstall EIANW and REBOOT to clear system memory.
3. Install initial EIANW game files and open game to verify original buttons, fonts, etc.
4. Due to significant game data file changes around v1.06, REBOOT before applying comprehensive patch.
5. Install comprehensive patch and set compatibility mode to Windows XP Service Pack 2 [See Note].
6. Open game to verify updated buttons, fonts, etc. REBOOT if necessary.
7. As needed, install updated .EXE HOTFIX files or other updated files as directed.
NOTE: The game code compiler [CodeGear C++Builder 2007] is only compatible up to Windows XP Service Pack 2. Setting game compatibility to any later operating system such as Vista/Win7/8/10 may introduce stability issues when running the game.

Hi! Im very happy to see the update! Thanks you for the effort.

I have a problem that I can't see the file. It gives 404 error:

"Not Found
The requested URL /pub/EmpiresInArms/EmpiresinArms-UpdateComp-1.23.00-Beta.zip was not found on this server."

It happens only to me?

Thank you Joe. Please review the clean installation process described above. Odd graphics issues seem to be related to compatibility settings not set to Windows XP Service Pack 2, and running the program as an administrator doesn't hurt.

One very minor item is the original mini-map is not updated with this comprehensive install. So I've attached the file to copy into the \Graphics\maps folder and we'll work on updating the installer. If anyone else spots something, let us know so we can get out a hotfix or something. Enjoy!

Hello all. I am aware of a few bugs with the v1.23.00 beta: 1) the pbem admin button not showing, 2) unloading units from ships not working, and 3) problems with placing depots during setup. I am working on fixes and should have an update available this coming weekend. The good news is that the installer seems fine and some pbem games are progressing. The problems are code related so an updated EXE will be easy to download and install.

Hello everyone,

It's been some years since my last visit and am pleased to see this game updated. It is a one of a kind.

I tried installing the original 'EmpireinArms-SetupRelease-DRv1.exe' file and the new 'EmpiresinArms-UpdateComp-v1.23.00-Beta.exe' over it.

I loaded a French solitaire 1805 Campaign Scenario.

My issue is that I am unable to place Supply depots except in Saint Malo and only when there isa Corp counter present.

I the tried a new install in the following order with the same above result.

EmpireinArms-SetupRelease-DRv1.exe
EmpiresinArms-UpdateCompDR-v10603.exe
EmpiresinArms-UpdateComp-v1.23.00-Beta.exe

I been playing this game since 1983 and hope I am not out of my league.[&:]

This is fixed in the v1.23.01 beta update I just posted this morning. Hope this helps!

PS - you do not need to install v10603. Just the initial installation and then the comprehensive update for v1.23.00. Then install the new v1.23.01 EXE file.

Good Job!

I haven't time until today to see this improvement.
I'm going to test it now.

One doubt: Are there changes on datafiles and has more space to modding?

Some incidental changes on datafiles but no changes for modding. I tried a couple of changes but backed them out when I had to rebuild the code. Seriously, this old code is difficult enough to patch up with the bug fixes and gameplay enhancements I've been doing without trying to mess with the fragile data structures.
