INST Editor/Converter

Post by pgatcomb »

I was finishing this summer out and looking for a solid coding project so I decided to take a crack at automating some of the tougher work in creating an maintaining INST files, namely converting and editing them after they have already been saved. So I threw together the Mark I and am looking for general feedback/ideas as to what a program like this could potentially have:

Things I would like:
* Be able to easily translate CWDB <-> DB3000 without having to do tedious find and replace, double points if it can import the library directly from the sqlite database CMANO uses.
* Edit properties of units directly (pretty much done at this point)

Any other thoughts?

Sweet!

Having position, altitude and heading are great - how about starting speed? Being able to edit scenario platforms to their mount, sensor and comms levels in a GUI format would be incredible, too. Also unit/platform Doctrine/EMCON/WRA & Proficiency settings? Looks like a great start.

I don't think those things can be edited with INST files, I will take a look into it though.

Alright, the Mark I is ready to release. This version supports both databases, has a decent library built in and some simple functionality that I hope will make INST work easier for users. I am thinking about adding other features like an "airport generator" instead of using single-unit airfields all the time or even better, some kind of way to import default "formations" that can be used. Here is a video if it in action, let me know what comes up and what else I can do to it:

Very useful!

Very grratful!

Just as you said in the YouTube: the window with DBID Item Type could grow a little. That would be nice.
Great work.

Okay, we are now ready.

This version adds a couple of neat new features including a generic airport builder (nothing too fancy) plus the ability to generate a unit with a ring of other units (think a ring of SAMs or AAA). There are a couple other little bug fixes, but this should do it for this tool unless anything major comes along. Enjoy!
