Telu IV Map Mod (boardgame look)
Telu IV Map Mod (boardgame look)
Some of you have long awaited this mod, and i was now finally able to overcome certain transparency/overlay problems with hills and mountains (thanks Nicholas Bell for pointing me into that direction).
****************************************************************************************
Important:
In order for the Mod to display hills and mountains as intended you need to do the following before installing the files:
Go to TOAW IV's main directory into the /graphics folder and "deactivate" hills_overlay graphics. This can best be done by renaming the according files (you may not want to delete them in case you later wish to use them again):
h_tiles_hills_overlay.png
tiles_hills_overlay.png
s_tiles_hills_overlay.png
Also check your graphics override folder for any files with the according names and rename or delete them, too.
****************************************************************************************
Get the mod here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/b5nnupfdhfvx2 ... 0.zip?dl=0 and extract the files to /graphics override.
Work on the mod already began in the TOAW III days. The standard hills and mountain terrain is more in accordance with the TOAW III look. I have added TOAW IV style hills and mountains in a separate folder in the zip file. This sample shows the Mod's standard hills and mountain terrain:

Do you mean \Graphics Override\... folder and NOT \Graphics overlay\... folder?
I can't seem to find a \Graphics overlay\... folder?
edit> Presuming \Graphics Override\... folder was the intended extraction destination, do these files have to placed in a specific game subfolder or can they be placed directly in the \Graphics Override folder itself to affect ALL games?

Ahm yes, of course Graphics Override.
The files can be placed directly into Graphics Override. They then will affect all scenarios.

Correct me if I'm wrong here:
If I'm understanding the TOAW IV folder hierarchy, once placed directly into the \Graphics Override\... folder They will override even same name files in the various scenario specific folders listed in the \Graphics Override\... folder.
Saves picking thru those same folders to eliminate conflicts.

No. The folder hierarchy is vice versa. Graphic files within a scenario specific folder will overwrite files from /Graphics Override.

Do dense urban and urban look different? I just see one type in your screen shot. Otherwise very nice.

Good day,
I see a graphics folder but not a graphics override folder. Am I missing something?
Thanks,
Mike

RE: Telu IV Map Mod (boardgame look)
Telu, a couple of questions/suggestions:
- Wouldn't it be possible to just include the three hills overlay files, and make them blank PNGs? That way the override would work and the game would use the blank files without the need to rename the originals.
- Would it be possible to make the damaged railroad tiles stand out more? Like make them redder for instance? I've manually edited mine so they are easier to see. The default damaged tiles are much too subtle, and my slight color-blindness doesn't make it better... see example below.
- I think the damaged bridge tiles would look better with the icon laid over the rail/road tiles, something like this below.

I've actually used parts of your mod for my own rail/road mod, since I found the default ones were really hard to see on the default map.
