AI on the Defense

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

AI on the Defense

Post by johngts »

been playing now for awhile...playing Westwall scn on challenging lvl as the West. tested a bunch of stuff and keep
coming up with the Axis AI retreating as for back as the map will allow. So ai has 110 on everythin and I have 90...
zero challenge on this scn.....I know this cant be historical...can it?

Same problem,

Only reloaded game and latest patch in the last week.

I played Husky & assumed I was brilliant, I have since played Westwall, Bulge & Cobra and the Axis immediately head for the map edge.

It isnt 100%, about 95% leaving HQ and forts behind.

Played on normal and challenging.

Ok, just ran Westwall and see what you mean. Something clearly broke, although I can't say what. We will look into this right away. Thanks for bringing it up.

We've found a problem with Westwall, Bulge and Breakout & Pursuit in that the line forming routine is forming the German line on the east map edge. Not sure yet when or why that happened. Gary has made a fix and we're testing it now. I can't say how soon we'll have something to go out, but we'll try to get something out in the next few weeks if only as a hotfix. In the meantime, I suggest you stay away from playing these three scenarios against the German AI. I haven't run Husky yet, but my guess is that this is just the normal very conservative play by the computer in this scenario as it thinks like the campaign where getting cut off in Sicily is not a good thing.
