Opening placquard

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

Opening placquard

Post by swkuh »

Would be nice to have such. Provides immediate choices to check for updates, see forums, access manuals, etc., besides PLAY. Otherwise, need to get into files to find access programs. Not nice.

Have WitE and BftB and both have such.

Too much to ask? Anytime OK, but some time important.

Do you mean the Game Menu? I have one, although it's modified for Torch, but doesn't the base game have a game menu that allows you to do what you're talking about? I'm pretty sure it has one, doesn't it? The only thing I can't find is the whatsnew (readme) file, and I don't even see that listed in my Windows Start menu list of items for WitW (I do see it for WitE in the Start menu list).
All understanding comes after the fact.

click on the man with the glasses, above the one that says WITW and a tank picture

other way is right click on the game shortcut and open left click open file location and right click on autorun and send to desktop, then you have a new menu shortcut to open instead of just the quick start one[&o]

1st, no such choices on my start screen.
2nd, looking through file explorer at "Matrix Games" I find only "tank icon" and doing suggested process gets nowhere.
3rd, is possible to continue using game and manuals but, as said, not as convenient as wanted.

If I delete all WitW files & file name, would a new download be possible? Luckily have retained WitW/Torch serial numbers. When download tried w/o deletions then am told its already loaded, etc.

Just open a tech support ticket or contact http://www.matrixgames.com/support/ with your order details (order reference number or/and email address used when placed the order) and they will provide you with new download links.

good luck

I believe your shortcut needs to point to autorun.exe rather than WarintheWest.exe for the placquard to appear.

^ This.

The splash screen with the manuals and check for update option appears on my PC (checked on Win 7 and Win 8.1) when I use the desktop icon placed by the game. If you launch the .exe then this bypasses the splash screen and just launches the game without the manual and update options.
