So, my son wants to go to OKPIK. That's a boy scout overnight winter survivor camp. Okies, I say. Dad, you have to go too, says he [X(]
(One of these days I'll lern to keep my trap shut. [8|] )

Anyways, they sent me a REQUIRED equipment list

3 pairs of mittens
2 - 3 sweaters and/or shirts (wool or fleece are best)
Winter coat, preferably hooded
2 pairs of pants, loose fitting wool army surplus pants with suspenders or insulated ski pants
3 pairs of socks minimum wool socks (I'm alergic to wool)
Pack boots with removable felt liners
Sunglasses
Sleeping bag
Duffel bag or sport bag — pack all your gear in this. No frame packs!
Ground cloth and closed-cell pad
Flashlight with extra batteries
Sun protection
Gaiters
An empty Nalgene that can be filled with hot water and put in your sleeping bag at night time
A brightly colored and obvious water bottle that will be used in emergencies at night. (Gee, I wonder what that is for?)
A vest (insulated or fleece)
Polypropylene glove liners
Sock liners
Personal items: toothbrush, chapstick, extra underwear, etc. (Items you usually take camping)
Pocket knife.
Canteen or water bottle
Candle lantern
Personal first aid kit
Travel games, playing cards
Reading material.

Gawds, I thought this was going to be roughing it. I'm suppose to get all of this into a stuff sack. I'm not sure I can get my load into my pickup!

So Publix (and the Fresh Market) got in some Chilean peaches. Skoosh smaller than Chilton County and a bit softer, but just as tasty. None of that tasteless, mealy, California dog food. These are real peaches.

So, some fall/winter greens, shredded with some arugula, a handfull of toasted, chopped, pecans, and some peeled, sliced, Chilean peaches. Woof !! Oh, yeah, drizzle a Balsamic/Tarragon vinaigrette over it with maybe a handful of crumbled Gorgonzola.

Life don't get much better. And it's all heart friendly. Ciao. J

[ed] serve with Greek grilled lamb ( lime and yogurt) or a Tuscan grilled chicken (lemon and tomatoe): Pilaf and Risoto, respectively, ot interchangeably. Yum, yum, yum, woof !!

Hola gang!

Has anyone else (apart from T) tried Fallen London? It's strange, in a good way, like The Thread! [:D]

It doesn't make any sense, Admiral. Were we better than the Japanese or just luckier?

Yeah. A certain cranky Dane has been posting bizzareances on his Facebook page from the game. You may want to ask him. [:D]

Hey Andre, have you (and your family) decided yet on going on the career track or moving to San Antonio?

Hi Per,

Right now, I'm playing the role of Michael Keaton ("Mr. Mom") while my wife rakes in the big bucks. We'll almost certainly move to San Antonio, but the question is 'when'? It's unrealistic (I think) to get the house on the market in the next 3 months for the Spring 2014 market. More realistic is next year's (2015) market. I think that's what we're gunning for-but I've only been at this 'job' one week. What the **** do I know? [:D]

ETA: I turned down the very interesting job offer in Pennsylvania. Were I single, it would have been a different choice. But, at some point, family means more than money / an interesting job.

Life is a trip-I would have never uttered that expression a handful of years ago. But now it seems...genuinely true.
