[1.5.0.1 beta] Patrol orders do not stick

Post by caerr »

Patrol orders given to a fleet and the ships consequently will be dropped once the ships go chasing after enemy ships. After the enemy ship has been destroyed, the fleet ships will fall idle and may fail to react to nearby enemies.

There is also a secondary problem with manually ordered patrol fleets not refueling themselves, and they will eventually fly with empty tanks. And a fuel-less warship is an unhappy ship.

I found out the reason why my fleets wouldn't stick with their patrol orders. It was because default stance settings in the options were overriding the patrol ones. I set everything involved to no default stance and patrol orders seem to work a lot better now.

There is still the issue with manually ordered patrol fleets not refuelling, however.

Edit: Looks like I was too hasty, one of my fleets still dropped patrol orders.

Edit 2: Yep, definitely a problem. Once I order the patrol order, the fleet jumps a couple of times and goes back to no mission.

Yeah, same problem here. Makes fleet operations a pain. My guys sometimes do one little patrol and then report "USS Miranda has completed it's mission" and then just sit there. One thing I need is designated escorts, frigates, and such patrolling/escorting specific locations and ships.

One trick I've learned is to manually re-fuel a fleet and queue up a patrol or mission afterwards, however, that's not a good solution and only works short term.
