original BTR and VISTA

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

original BTR and VISTA

Post by wernerpruckner »

BtR does not work on my new PC with VISTA....it says that there is a DLL missing ( "d3drm.dll")

this is not good....I still have some long time PBEMs going on....

Here's what I have been doing:

Running BTR under openSUSE 10.2 using the QEMU processor emulator. I have my machine set up as a dual boot Linux/XP box, but I don't spend much time on the Windows side of the house these days. I have Windows Me loaded on a virtual QEMU hard drive, and run BTR there. It's nice to have a BTR session cranking away in one window and something else entirely going on in another, or on another desktop.

QEMU is free open source software and available for Windows and OS X as well as Linux. Take a look at the QEMU site: QEMU Open Source Processor Emulator

I'm hoping to do the same thing when the new version of BTR comes out. I'll definitely report back, whatever the results!

Yes, and Steel Panthers runs quite happily under Wine, see http://www.ibiblio.org/sinner/Steel/linux_en.html. (I should add my self to the list of successes).

It appears to be the DirectX games that are the fly in the ointment. If you read the support sub-forums, some people have difficulty running them under Windows. [:D] (I had to revert my video drivers to get UV to run properly).

Is there a solution to this (apart from weaning the programmers off propriety software)??
Cheers,
Reg.

You can download Virtual PC from the microsoft website - it's a free download - try it there. I've run some problematic (read old) games on my system using VPC2007.

okay,
btr and bob work on/with vista - you need to download some additional dlls.

but I went Zepp´s way ( thanx by the way ) and play it now with Linux and QEMU.

Both BOB and BTR work ok with XP . Only problem is with excessive screen scrolling.
