Back to News Listing Battle Academy goes the extra mile with a lite version

Posted: Thursday, October 25, 2012 by Scott Parrino

Type: Demo

We have been continually updating the game and to celebrate its success are now launching a lite version of the game exclusively for the iPad store and updating the existing PC and Mac demos, released a few months ago.

Critically acclaimed strategy gaming franchise Battle Academy is three years old, but it shows no signs of slowing down its worldwide success. The stunning release of the iPad version earlier this year, received an incredible reaction, both in terms of overall sales, with the game constantly sitting in the top grossing strategy games charts and in terms of public recognition with well over 500 five stars rating and an average reviewers scores of 4.5 stars across the globe.

We have been continually updating the game and to celebrate it success are now launching a lite version of the game exclusively for the iPad store and updating the existing PC and Mac demos, released a few months ago. This new demo version includes an intro mission and a full single player scenario, set only a few days after the Normandy landing. It also allows you to accept invitations to 2 multiplayer scenarios from players who have the full game, It represents an ideal prequel to the main game and it is designed to be accessible and enjoyed by any newcomer.
There is also a great new addition to an already long list of community-based features included in Battle Academy. All existing players now have the opportunity to invite any friend to a multiplayer battle, even if they don't own the game. The process is very simple: by clicking the new invite button that has been added to the game's main menu, players will be driven through a very simple setup process. The invited person will receive a link to download a demo and taken directly into the scenario with its turn ready to be played.
The release of demo and invite system, also coincides with the issue of game update 2.0.6. A full list of changes in v2.0.6 can be found here.
"We are trying to give the community an opportunity to share their passion in a completely new way", said Iain McNeil, Development Director at Slitherine. "Usually players can post results and achievement on their Facebook pages, but the opportunity of inviting friends that don't own the game has never been tried before. To celebrate the launch of this revolutionary system we have also decided to invite some pretty unusual players to play the game. We would really like some big names to come to the game and enjoy it as much as thousands of people are already doing worldwide".
The list of VIP people invited to play Battle Academy include former Secretary of State of the US Colin Powell, general David Petraeus, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States General Martin Dempsey and many others.
PC and Mac versions of the main game will also be discounted for a week’s time to match the iPad version price at $ 19.99.

Empires Apart Dev Diary - The goal of the game

    Tuesday, March 13, 2018

In our previous dev diaries we focused on the different available game modes, as well as the design behind the UI. Today we are going to cover a number of different subjects, but all have something in common: why we decided to make Empires Apart.

It’s no secret that we drew heavy inspiration from games that marked our childhood: Age of Empires, Empire Earth, and others. We wanted to bring back that feeling, the familiar atmosphere of games we loved, but also add our own touch, as well as modernize the formula, bring it to 2018’s standards. Empires Apart is, basically, the game we wanted to play.

    Desert War Mechanicics .Shock Explained

    Tuesday, March 13, 2018

“Everyone was talking and chatting, when slowly came into sight the first tank I ever saw.  Not a monster but a very graceful machine with beautiful lines….  Here was the missing tool of penetration, the answer to the dominance on the battlefield of small-arms fire.”—J.F.C. Fuller

Matrix Games/Slitherine’s upcoming release of Brian Kelly’s Desert War 1940-42 uses a simple game mechanic often found in WWII board games.  It gives tank units a “special place” in the player’s toolbox—a positive shift to the combat force ratio if attacking, and the opposite when defending.  Coming up short of attack factors?  No problem!  Throw in some tanks.  A 1 to 1 attack can become a 2 to 1, 3 to 1, 4 to 1, etc.  In Desert War 1940
