Award winning boardgame coming to PC in faithful adaptation

Matrix Games (www.matrixgames.com), Slitherine (www.slitherine.com), Western Civilization Software (www.west-civ.com) and Academy Games (www.academy-games.com) are thrilled to announce the official computer release of the multiple award-winning tactical WWII game, Conflict of Heroes: Awakening the Bear!  This exciting new release is a faithful adaptation of the renowned Conflict of Heroes board game that won the Origins Historical Game of the Year, Charles Roberts Wargame of the Year and the James F. Dunnigan Design Elegance Award, as well as many others!

Designed and developed in cooperation with Uwe Eickert, the original designer of Conflict of Heroes, no effort has been spared to bring the outstanding Conflict of Heroes gameplay to the computer.  Conflict of Heroes: Awakening the Bear!includes an AI opponent as well as full multiplayer support with an integrated forum and game lobby.  To remain true to the core gameplay of the board game, the PC version is designed to be fun, fast and easy to play, though hard to master. The game design is also historically accurate and teaches and rewards platoon and company-level combined arms tactics without overwhelming the player with rules.

Erik Rutins, Director of Product Development at Matrix Games said: “When we first played Conflict of Heroes, we knew that we had to bring it to the computer. The award-winning development team at Western Civilization Software was our first choice for this project and their excitement about this title matches our own.  After more than two years of development with the combined efforts of Western Civilization Software and Academy Games, the result is a title that all Conflict of Heroes fans and tactical scale wargamers will love”.

Conflict of Heroes: Awakening the Bear! takes you to the Eastern Front of World War II during Operation Barbarossa, the German invasion of the Soviet Union.  This release includes a historical roster of infantry, artillery, mechanized and support units for the Axis and Soviet forces for the time frame of Operation Barbarossa.

Also included are all ten original Awakening the Bear! scenarios as well as eleven new Frontier scenarios, five new Commanding Heights scenarios and a very flexible “Partisan Road” Point Buy scenario.  For those with a creative urge, Conflict of Heroes also comes with a scenario editor which allows players to create and sharecompletely new scenarios using the Awakening the Bear units!

Desert War is OUT

Thursday, March 22, 2018

1940. While in Europe the German war machine seems unstoppable, in the desert of North Africa the British and its Commonwealth Allies are not willing to concede an easy victory to the Axis. Italian forces - even if initially numerically superior - are not adequately trained or equipped for a prolonged war in such environment, and soon they send request for aid to avoid complete defeat. Berlin answers to the call and a blocking force led by General Erwin Rommel is organized and dispatched to the Libyan shores.

Now, the day has come. Are you ready for Desert War?

Desert War Tutorial Guide

Training is fondamental. Without that, even the best eqipped troops can be prey of a better prepared enemy. You must know your own troops, their potential and limits.
As a commander, you must adapt your plan to un expected situations and quickly, because time is essential and the more you wait the more chances you are leaving to the enemy to exploit your mistakes.
This is even truer in desert warfare, where the harsh environment conditions have a direct impact on communication, movement and more.
