Matrix Games and VR Designs (www.vrdesigns.nl) are thrilled to announce the first installment to an innovative new series of operational World War II wargames, entitled Decisive Campaigns: The Blitzkrieg from Warsaw to Paris!  From the development team that created Advanced Tactics: WWII, Decisive Campaigns: The Blitzkrieg from Warsaw to Paris offers gamers an exciting new system that realistically models the command, combat and logistics of World War II while including a strategic flair and a number of “what if” options.

The development team behind the award-winning game Advanced Tactics: World War II is back with a new and improved game engine that focuses on the decisive early days of World War II! Decisive Campaigns: The Blitzkrieg from Warsaw to Paris is the first in an innovative series of operational World War II wargames that also include a strategic element.  The Blitzkrieg from Warsaw to Paris simulates Germany’s military successes in Poland and France in 1939 and 1940 (including also a hypothetical “Sea Lion” invasion of Great Britain if you do well enough).

 

Well researched and packed with depth, including detailed unit data down to the squad and vehicle level and historically realistic combined arms gameplay, The Blitzkrieg from Warsaw to Paris also features an easy-to-learn interface and a ferocious AI.  Before each campaign, players choose actions and options at a strategic level which can have far-reaching effects on how the actual battle unfolds, with many plausible hypothetical outcomes. 

 

Once in the battle, players move regiments and divisions, coordinate attacks and manage logistics in what we feel is the definitive game on the campaigns of the early Blitzkrieg. There are also unique actions for individual historical generals to give a particular objective or front the extra needed push to victory.  Decisive Campaigns: The Blitzkrieg from Warsaw to Paris also includes a unique multiplayer feature where players can split up Axis or Allied armies between several people to add an added level of realism and cooperation!

In 2002, the original Strategic Command game was a relatively simple construct. With a limited rule set and a much smaller 62x37 map of approximately 2300 hexes, the requirements for the AI were not necessarily trivial, but in general terms, they were straightforward.

Fast forward to today, and Strategic Command WWII: War in Europe has been expanded into a modifiable hexagonal game engine allowing map sizes of up to 512x512 or 262,144 hexes!

Strategic Command Beta AAR: First Moves

Welcome to the first Beta-AAR of Strategic Command WWII: War in Europe.  This is a mini AAR, and as such, the AAR will only cover the inital shots in Gleiwitz Poland in September of 1939, to the fall of France in mid 1940.   Since the game is still in Beta, there might be some changes of the material covered between now and the final release, but the game already feels complete and the development team assures me that they don’t expect much to change other than minor items to ensure any final polish and balance to the main campaign.

Players familiar with the Strategic Command series will immediately notice the much bigger map. In the north, the passage around Norway to Archangelsk is ready for sub warfare, and in the south, a large part of Africa has been modeled as well.
