Back to News Listing Field of Glory System Gets An Update!

Posted: Wednesday, August 11, 2010 by Sean Drummy

Type: Press Release

After adding another accolade to its trophy case, the popular game system is updated again

Matrix Games and Slitherine Strategies (www.slitherine.com) are pleased to release the comprehensive 1.3.3 update for their award winning turn-based ancients game system, Field of Glory. The 1.3.3 update includes significant improvements in evasion logic, additional allied army unit images, new maps for the DAG, an auto deployment feature, AI improvements, and plenty of fixes. Particularly important fixes include the resolution of several multiplayer issues from 1.2.8 including some crashes and freezes.

We highly recommend that every Field of Glory owner upgrade their game to version 1.3.3.

This update comes right after Field of Glory celebrates winning a Charles S. Roberts Award for Best Pre-20th Century Era Wargame! Check out the results (and other Matrix/Slitherine winners from this year’s voting) at the award’s official website.

David Heath, Director of Operations at Matrix Games, said “The Field of Glory system has steadily been getting bigger and better since its release. With several awards to its name and many expansions to choose from, Field of Glory is now the game to play for ancient and medieval turn-based tactical wargaming and there is much more still to come!”

Based on Slitherine’s popular tabletop wargaming system by the same name, Field of Glory now comes to the PC in a faithful adaptation of this acclaimed miniatures wargame!  Without the calculations and measurements required for a tabletop game of Field of Glory, the PC version accurately represents ancient and medieval combat where you make the important and fun decisions on the battlefield.

In the latest new expansion, this award winning ancient combat system is taking phalanx form and marching toward gamers with Field of Glory – Immortal Fire! Immortal Fire covers the armies of the Classical and Hellenistic eras from the development of the hoplite system in Greece in the 7th century BC until the Hellenistic successor kingdoms of the 3rd century BC. Fight battles with a huge variety of armies in conflicts ranging from wars between Greek city-states and against the mighty Achaemenid Persian Empire. Alexander the Great fans will be particularly exhilarated as they take part in the Greek counter-offensive against Persia, or even the wars of Alexander’s successors!

As a bonus, Immortal Fire includes many armies peripheral to the expansion’s main conflict, complimented by over 100 new unit images. The period covered is one of great military variety, with many different troop-types vying for tactical dominance. Each army has its own special character, making this one of the most fascinating periods of military history for a wargamer to explore!

Get the update here. This update is comprehensive and will bring all previous version of the Field of Glory system to 1.3.3.
