Posted: Wednesday, August 26, 2009 by Sean Drummy

Type: Press Release

A new Scenario Editor, many fixes and an improved AI on the way to gamers!

Matrix Games and Australian Design Group (www.a-d-g.com.au) are pleased to release the 1.06.03 update for the PC adaptation of the award winning Napoleonic strategy game, Empires in Arms. This major comprehensive update comes with dozens of bug fixes, an updated manual, several improvements leading to a smarter AI, and a few rule tweaks.  It is strongly recommended that all Empires in Arms customers upgrade to this version.

The 1.06.03 update also comes with a new scenario editor complete with documentation in the updated manual. The scenario editor will allow gamers to change units, timeframes, and leaders and construct their own original scenarios.

David Heath, Director of Operations at Matrix Games, said “We are pleased to bring gamers the sixth update to Empires in Arms for the PC since the game’s initial release and look forward to continuing our support of this great game.  We believe that this update represents a major step forward since the last 1.05.05 official update.”

Take command of one of the many factions in early 19th century Europe! Empires in Arms is a grand strategy turn-based race to prove which nation is the greatest in Europe. In a bid for mastery over the continent, players can succeed where Napoleon failed or try to stop the military genius quicker than his historical enemies could!

The game moves in monthly turns where diplomacy and builds are conducted.  Within the monthly turns there are a variable number of impulses where corps and fleets move about. All movement is simultaneous with battles occurring at the end of the impulse. Battles are resolved by players both picking a strategy and fighting a series of rounds in an attempt to break the enemy. Make and break alliances, declare war, invade minor nations, propose peace terms, build armies of landwehr, regulars, guards, light cavalry, heavy cavalry and artillery. Many historical leaders from the period are included to command corps and fleets, from Admiral Nelson to Marshal Davout to the Pashas of the Ottoman Empires.

The slightest mistake could be the difference between the crown of Europe or exile to St. Helena. Step into history and find your destiny in Empires in Arms!

Get the update here. This update is comprehensive and will bring all previous versions of Empires in Arms to version 1.06.03.

Field of Glory 2 Developers Diary - A.I.

Tuesday, July 18, 2017

The AI for Field of Glory II has been developed by building on the knowledge gained from developing the generally praised AI for Pike and Shot and Sengoku Jidai.

Deployment
For non-preset scenarios, it is important that the AI can deploy its army in a sensible formation, taking account of the prevailing terrain.
Generally speaking, most ancient armies would deploy with an infantry centre in one or more lines. (Usually three for Romans, usually only one for Hellenistic armies). They would then have cavalry on both wings and perhaps in reserve, plus light troops both in the centre and on the wings.
