The first update to this highly successful American Civil War game is now available

Matrix Games and 2by3 Games (www.2by3games.com) are excited to announce the release of the first official update for their highly acclaimed American Civil War grand strategy masterpiece, Gary Grigsby’s War Between the States. Bringing the version of the game up to 1.010, the update includes a handful of new player-requested features including an interface improvement making it easier to see which leaders have initiative, additional feedback to players on leader casualties and Kentucky neutrality a dozen fixes, and some improvements to the Union AI in Missouri.

David Heath, Director of Operations at Matrix Games, said “The veteran design talents of the 2by3 team have come through with flying colors in this accessible and deep American Civil War grand strategy simulation. This latest update just further solidifies the deep strategy and innovative gameplay that gamers will experience in Gary Grigsby’s War Between the States.”

Taking gamers back to the start of the American Civil War, Gary Grigsby’s War Between the States allows players to experience the trials and tribulations of the role of commander-in-chief for either side.  Historically accurate, detailed and finely balanced for realistic gameplay, War Between the States is also easy to play and does not take months to finish.

Promote and cultivate talented young colonels or brigadiers to build Corps and Army commanders that will help you fight and manage the war effort from battles to training of recruits with the utmost efficiency and success.  An innovative multi-faceted rank promotion system allows leaders to gain in abilities and power based on their successes, while also simulating the historical progression of leaders during the war.  Each decision you make must be weighed carefully, as promoting and demoting leaders, entering neutral states, raising troops and many other actions cost you the political capital that will determine your ability to achieve victory.

On July 20, 1969, at 10:56 p.m. Eastern Time, people across the Earth listened the words of NASA astronaut Neil Armstrong: "That's one small step for man . . . one giant leap for mankind". Armored Brigade Dev Diary #1 - Artificial Intelligence

Monday, July 16, 2018

The Armored Brigade artificial intelligence (AI) is fully dynamic, which means that it can handle any scenario within the game parameters, without a need for any scripting from the scenario designer. This approach has been the basic foundation of the game. I've always found the procedurally generated game content fascinating, and that can be seen in the design philosophy of Armored Brigade.

In Armored Brigade, there's an undefined number of maps, units, environmental conditions, and so on. The system must build a readable representation, process the input and then produce output that creates a credible impression of intelligence that behaves in a realistic, unpredictable and challenging manner. That's quite a challenge indeed. A "chess AI", where you have a finite number of possible states, is out of the question.
