A new update has shipped out from the home front and is headed into action!

Matrix Games and 2by3 Games (www.2by3games.com) are pleased to announce the release of a new v1.020 update for Gary Grigsby’s World at War: A World Divided.

The v1.020 update includes some important improvements to the rules for artillery, carrier strikes, bombardment attacks and other areas.  A variety of new features including improved retreats and resource movement as well as further increases in mod-ability, especially in tweaking political events.  In addition, the update includes several bug fixes and a brand new scenario called Global Glory which puts a special emphasis on oil resources and additional realism options.

This latest update reflects a further improvement of this fantastic combination in addition to making it easier for fans of the game to modify and improve upon an already solid product.”

 

Gary Grigsby’s World at War: A World Divided is a dynamic, turn-based strategy game of World War II that puts you in the role of some of the most famous and infamous leaders in history. Four tutorials, three campaigns and five scenarios let you learn the system quickly and start fighting the whole war and beyond. Building off of the success of its award-winning successor, A World Divided still gives complete control over the production, research and military strategy for your side, but in this improved sequel you’ll also be able to bring spies into the mix as well as neutral country diplomacy, variable political events, unit experience and much more. As a bonus, it includes the ability to play a special Soviet vs. Allies scenario that occurs after the end of World War II.

Last week, on Monday 1st during the fifth Home of Wargamers, we had the chance to talk a little about the progression with Close Combat: The Blody First. One of the areas of improvements is the visual representation of the unit's status, to help players getting a faster idea on what’s going on the battlefield. WarPlan Dev Diary #3 - Naval System

Most naval battles occurred within a very short span of time over long distances. Simulating this on the WarPlan scale of 2 weeks is a difficult task. Consider the map following the Bismarck and the Prince Eugen. This whole engagement took just 1 week from the day the left port to the day the battleship was sunk. It took half the British navy to find her at sea. Another example is the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

The movement and attack on Pearl Harbor took 11 days crossing 140 hexes WarPlan hexes of map distance. The complexities of recreating realistic scenarios are a challenge to say the least.
